Our CES ’18 Speakers Roundup

1

CES 2018 brought us another year of great speakers and AV receivers but this year things seemed more connected then ever.. Literally this seemed to be the year where voice activated and connected speakers were the biggest things to come out of audio. We saw a lot of them but did have a few favorites and here are our top picks for all things audio to come out of the show this year.

Polk Command Bar (Sound Bar)
Unveiled at their press conference this thing packs some punch and makes sure you notice. Enabling the power of voice command with Amazon Alexa Built-in you can control the volume, source and better yet the controller has a button to lower everything down so the system can hear you which is a plus we haven’t seen in other audio equipment. It also has DTS and Dolby codecs along with a few other features will touch upon its release.

JBL Link View
Checking out JBL we got the chance to see the Link View which will be a part of the Link family by having Google Assistant built into it. It also features a display measuring at 8 inches across and features a HD 1280 x 720 resolution screen for displaying video calls, follow step-by-step recipes and watch YouTube clips!

Klipsch Reference R-14SA Elevation Speakers
These Klipsch speakers are Dolby Atmos enabled for elevation and brings out the immersive experience to any setup. These looked great on a book shelve or even mounted overhead and will pack a punch in sound that Klipsch is known for.

This was only a small taste to what we’ve experienced but they definitely stood out from the rest. Check out some of our other best of posts coming out from the show and more on these products on a later date!

1More Triple Driver in-ear headphones Review: Elevated Listening Experience

0

Many would think to achieve great quality in-ear headphones would be a hefty price. You see $20-30 in-ear headphones which sound decent but tend to not give you an overall better experience and break within a month or so. 1More has delivered great in-ear headphones at a really good price which rival higher end models.

Hardware/Design

The 1More Triple Driver in-ear headphones as the name suggests has a three separate driver system. What this really means is that you’re getting a dedicated sound profile for each drive. One dynamic for bass, one for mids and one for highs. You wouldn’t think of it but have these sound profiles separated makes a world of a difference in quality.

Nowadays it’s hard to tell how much a pair of headphones or earbuds cost you as we’ve mentioned before they’re in the low $ range of 20-30 but this not only has internals that are quality but it also looks quality. The earbuds have an aluminum rose gold finish which is actually the rose gold color it is suppose to be. The earbuds themselves are very lightweight and angled to fit a certain way right on the ear for comfort and stability. Even coming right down to the packaging where it not only has a great design breaking down the components of the earbuds but they also sport you with 9 sets of tips and a case to take it all with you. They made sure this will fit you which is great for me since one of my ear canals is actually a different size then the other.

Performance

You honestly don’t know good sound that could come from earbuds until you heard these. This will definitely change your thinking of having to spend 100’s of dollars on expensive headphones to have a pretty decent sound when this did the job great. The bass really comes in fully while not sacrificing mids or highs hence so a difference three drivers makes. My listening experience varied in three flavors which was music, watching some entertainment and of course playing some games.

The results came out really impressive as our music experience like Jay-Z’s 4:44 lossless album had us want to really crank it up and didn’t hear a break or crackle with things being as clear as its source. We watched parts of Logan and movie trailers for entertainment that brought us closer to the action with explosions and dialogue coming to life. Of course we had to play a few games to round things out which made games like Rise of the Tomb Raider and even the Nintendo Switch up the overall experience.

Bottomline

1More Triple Driver in-ear headphones is one impressive set of earbuds and has quite a bundle to it. All of this and I have not even mention the price. It doesn’t come cheap setting you back at $99 but this is a clear investment for those that want a better and more elevated listening experience in a small and lightweight package. Whether you’re listening to music, looking at entertainment or playing games things will sound better then you thought they could.

Disney buys 21st Century Fox’s Entertainment Division for $52.4 Billion

0

Disney is buying a huge chunk of 21st Century Fox in a deal that promises to reshape the media industry and help the entertainment giant fend off digital rivals such as Netflix.

The $52.4 billion deal will combine two of the biggest players in Hollywood.

The sale represents a remarkable turn in the career of octogenarian mogul Rupert Murdoch, who is cashing out after building a major media empire. For its part, Disney (DIS) is adding even more prime entertainment assets to an already swollen portfolio as it battles upstart streaming services that have undercut the traditional cable subscription model.

The deal allows Disney to expand its content, especially for streaming services. In addition to a majority stake in Hulu that it will have once the deal closes, Disney is preparing to launch two separate streaming services, one for sports and another focusing on entertainment. And it is pulling its content from Netflix in preparation for the launch. Adding Fox’s television and movie studios and the content they own means adding to the stable of must-watch content it can offer directly to consumers — and that streaming competitors can not.

The deal will needs to undergo regulatory review and will likely take at least a year to close. The Justice Department, which last month sued to block AT&T’s purchase of CNN parent company Time Warner, will consider to what extent the new company could dominate the market, using its increased leverage to force cable companies and distributors to pay higher rates to carry Disney and Fox content.

News of a possible deal first came to light in early November when CNBC reported that Disney had approached 21 Century Fox about a deal to acquire the movie and television assets. That led to other companies, like Comcast, to explore an acquisition as well. But on Monday Comcast said in statements to media outlets that it “never got the level of engagement needed to make a definitive offer” and was withdrawing from the discussions.

As the two companies work to complete the deal and Disney works to integrate its new assets, Bob Iger, who had been expected to retire, will remain as chairman and CEO of Disney through 2021.

“The acquisition of this stellar collection of businesses from 21st Century Fox reflects the increasing consumer demand for a rich diversity of entertainment experiences that are more compelling, accessible and convenient than ever before,” Iger said in a statement. “We’re honored and grateful that Rupert Murdoch has entrusted us with the future of businesses he spent a lifetime building.”

In a statement of his own, Murdoch said, “I’m convinced that this combination, under Bob Iger’s leadership, will be one of the greatest companies in the world. I’m grateful and encouraged that Bob has agreed to stay on, and is committed to succeeding with a combined team that is second to none.”

With Disney acquring Fox’s entertainment division, this means X-Men and Fantastic Four can be included in Marvel Cinematic Universe!

Disney is in a powerfull position to become an even bigger entertaiment giant!

Stay tuned.
