SVS SB-2000 Subwoofer Review: Level Up with Big Sound

1

We got the chance to review the SVS Prime Elevation speakers a few months ago and we thought it exceeded our expectations, which you can find here. Now we got a chance to check out something they’ve been pulling up the ranks in which is their subs. The SB-2000 Subwoofer is not only small but very impressive with little to improve upon.

Design
The SB-2000 has a simple yet effective design with tough build quality. It comes in either a black woodcut or piano gloss black finish. The most prominent thing is the 12″ drive in front which takes up one side of the speaker itself. For protection or just a different look in general the grill that it comes with us very sturdy and isn’t the typical mesh we’re used to seeing. We were impressed on how small they were able to make this with everything it has going which we’ll get into in a minute.

Hardware
The subwoofer has a 500-watt RMS and can peak at 1100-watt. This is a Sledge STA-500D DSP amplifier which also means you can push the SB-2000 as much as you want in different configurations without worry of it getting damaged. The setting knobs in the back include a volume, Phase and the Low Pass Filter control among an Auto standby or constant on tab. The unit also manages to give you a stereo line-level input which gives you other amp combo options as well.

Performance
We didn’t know what to expect when it came to reviewing the unit which we did for about two months straight but we were blown away by a lot of what we heard. First off everyones listening experience and way they want to setup audio is different, luckily the SB-2000 was very flexible when trying to find a sweet spot for how we liked it. We found that two configurations were best which was either to put the unit at 80hz and tweak a few settings on the receiver to work together. The other is to put the receivers low pass filter on LFE mode and let the receiver do all the decoding, managing and heavy lifting which got us more of where we wanted to be with it.

We tested it out in a few different settings, first being music which had more of subtle bass then hard hitting which we preferred. We could make it sound like car speakers if you wanted but it’s like it almost knew to hit tones evenly with songs that could get a bit crazy with the bass. We of course tested it out with gaming which we had to get a proper setup for it but once we got it really brought up the level of sound within games. The deep engine noise in Forza Horizon 3 for Xbox One sounded almost lifelike and explosions in Battlefield 1 were outstanding! Lastly when we tested it out with movies it brings it to another level. We like our sound a bit grittier almost like a ripple of bass versus one big boom and the SB-2000 was able to deliver and more. Some scenes in movies had bass in which I didn’t know it had which made the whole experience feel like we were closer to the action.

We don’t have anything negative to say really but we would maybe prefer a more aggressive look from the subwoofer itself or possibly the grill. We would also love a bit more equalizer control to get a even finer tune setting.

Bottomline
SVS has done a fantastic job making the SB-2000. We don’t think you could get a better subwoofer for the price of $699 and easily rivals bigger more expensive brands. This subwoofer can fill up sound in nearly any home theater setup you may have and is highly recommended to bring your entertainment to another level.

The HyperX Revolver is a great stereo headphone which worked great for PC and console gaming alike. Lenovo Ideapad Y900-17 Review

1

It looks like Lenovo gave their latest gaming product a MAJOR re-design. Modern, edgy and yet still sophisticated, the Lenovo Ideapad Y900 aims to be distinctly visually appealing down to the touch and to the display. There are a number of things that make this product a quality purchase and we’ll break down all of the pros and cons for you right here!
len-1

Accentuated with glossy ridges, smooth metals and select-rubber patterns -this new Lenovo has really evolved into a more mature model. The gloss on the exterior matches the logo, and truly brings out the red Y that is placed on the center of the laptop face. Not only does the exterior have more edges and ridges mixed in with the metal, but it also houses a newly designed power button in bright red to match the Y.

The keyboard is also of unique design since it has mechanical keys. It may be somewhat difficult to get accustomed to using, being that it’s a bit of a stretch to reach from the edge of the laptop. It can require a ton of wrist-action but it’s a good hand work out. The most fun aspect of the keyboard is the customizable light which comes in an assortment of colors. It will be hard to go back to any other keyboard after a few interactions with this Y900 keyboard.

The 17 inch display is 1080p and this is pretty standard for gaming laptops. What makes this display great is the In-Plane Switching technology which makes for a much clearer visual and wider angles for viewing. The images and games do look great on the display and overall it’s a quality screen. We were able to play some Killer Instinct and Forza Horizon 3 on nearly max settings with no problem at all. Doesn’t run too hot or to loud as well when gaming or multi-tasking.

The Y900 supports virtual reality headsets which is right now trending for gamers. It’s most certainly a full-gaming laptop and there’s plenty of storage which is also a plus! Speaker-wise, the Y900 speakers have a 3-watt subwoofer and the sound is crips and balanced when it’s at maximum.

The final test of a good laptop is how long it lasts because the last thing you want is to not have you work saved or be in the middle of a game and have the entire system shut down. Surprisingly, the Y900 lasts for almost 5 hours and the battery life is above average compared to other competitor products.

Overall, The Lenovo Ideapad Y900 is eye-catching, modern and visually attractive. The re-design makes it an incredibly interesting laptop and the customizable mechanical keyboard makes for a much more lively consumer experience. The only real cons are that it’s very heavy (weighing in at around 10 pounds) and pretty expensive.

Comic Con Show Recaps!

1

We know that the big Comic Con aka San Diego Comic Con has come and gone. With the passing of SDCC a lot of new trailers and entertainment news has been bubbling up and hitting us in the face like a big shovel. If you haven’t checked out any of the footage from Comic Con and have no idea what’s on the horizon I made a quick list of movies and shows coming up that you should really check out. There’s definitely something for everyone, whether it be action, super heros, sci-fi, or even horror. One movie I’m looking forward to is Ready Player One, they recently released a trailer for it which looks amazing. It’s been one of my favorite books to read and I really hope Steven Spielberg does Ernest Cline’s story justice From what I’ve seen from the initial trailer, the movie’s CGI looks awesome, the music seems epic but what do you expect from someone who gave us ET, Jurassic Park, and the Halo tv series? San Diego Comic Con 2017 Todd McFarlane Officially Announces Spawn Movie

1

The father of Spawn, Todd McFarlane, has finally officially announced a new Spawn moive. The film will be produced by Blumhouse Productions, the studio behind Insidious, Split, and the Paranormal Activity franchise. The new Spawn movie will be directed personally for the first time by Todd McFarlane himself, I mean you gotta make your baby shine, especially with all these big hit super hero movies being produced. So far not too much is known about the movie itself but we do know that this will be a new reboot and not a continuation of the previous Spawn movie from 1997 (Good lord it’s been 20 years already?). McFarlane is pushing for a R rating for the movie, which thank the heavens that it’ll go with a Deadpool rating so we can actually give it a more bad ass dark feel that Spawn should have. Would love to see who they’ll cast as Al Simmons AKA Spawn, I wonder if they’ll pass the mantle back to Michael Jai White? Who would you like to see pick up the Spawn mantle? Let us know in the comments below, and keep checking back for more news about the movie here when we find out more about cast and the plot.
