Modern Warfare 2: Resurgence Map Pack Review

Last week Activision drop a bomb on all of the people on Xbox 360 and released the new Resurgence map pack for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. After a good amount of time playing the new and old maps I think I have had the full experience needed for each map. If you have been under a rock for the past two weeks and didn’t know about the download click HERE.

One of the first maps in the mix that everyone’s been asking about is Carnival. The layout of the map is interesting, for a small map there are a lot of sniping spots and cover to duck behind. Small paths throughout the map usually open up to large open areas like a carousel, concession stand, roller coaster, or a bumper car area, of course all of the areas are run down and inoperable. A few of the sniping spots in the map take a little time to get to, meaning you may run into a few people before you actually get to the spot and may even die a few times before getting into position. A good majority of the map is open, excluding the fun house and parts of the castle area, so that means air support, AC-130’s chopper gunners are going to have a fun time mowing down other players, so be sure to have at least one class with the Cold-blooded perk.

Fuel is a map where you do not want to be caught out in the open. Supposedly Activision said this map would be perfect for a sniper fight but when playing this map there were but only a few sniper classes being used. The map is laid out in a way where snipers do have certain advantages in some areas of the map, unfortunately because of the forced game modes within the play list those areas are seldom entered. The great thing that I found on this map was the multi-leveled buildings that give a great terrain advantage for some players. Again air support on this map can rack up the kills only if its placed in the right place though.

Trailer park I think is one of the maps that can be frustrating or just out right fun. Who knew you could have so much enjoyable time within a trailer park? On this map its very hard to guess where people may go, but one thing is for certain, there’s always someone right around the other corner waiting for you to just pop out. Shotguns are great to use if you’re going to be in the center where everything is close together but if you’re on the outskirts of the map you may want to look for cover. Make sure you are ready to have your knife reaction times tested here because there will be man occasions where you’ll run into a trailer and will be face to face with your enemy. Just be sure to stay spread out from your teammates because one good nade or rpg could mean the win or loss of a match.

As for the two old maps from Call of Duty 4: Modern Warefare, Vacant and Strike have had a make over. The first time replaying the old map all I could think was, “Oh wow look at all of the pretty colors.” I must admit playing the remake of the old maps brought back fond memories of CoD4. The level designers did a great job in making both maps feel weathered and dated. They still play the same as they did in CoD4, we all have our spots on both map where we take specific routes to.

All in all all the maps are fun to play and they give MW2 more replay value and add more to multiplayer games. The $15 download is a little steep but I think it’s worth it. For getting two remade maps and three new maps for that amount, I would at least hope for a couple of new weapons added to the mix. All the guns in MW2 are great to use, but I’m sure there are weapons out there that would be fun to use. Old perks from CoD4 that could be ported back into MW2 would also be great, or even the ability to carry an extra nade symtex. Hopefully Activision gets the point and starts adding some of these things back into the game.

Recent Lawsuit Filed Against Square Enix and Sony

2

The lawsuit, filed on June 2, 2010 by Daniel Wolf of San Diego, Calif., alleges Final Fantasy XIII has caused “severe and widespread damage” to Sony’s PS3 gaming systems since its release on March 9, 2010. The lawsuit states that, for many consumers, playing Final Fantasy XIII has “caused their PS3 consoles to freeze and become totally and permanently inoperable.” Wolf said he purchased a copy of Final Fantasy XIII the day it was released, and when attempting to save his game, his PS3 became unresponsive and would no longer play any other media after restarting it.

“Both Defendants are eminently aware of the damage being cause by their defective products, and have chosen to do nothing about it,” the lawsuit says.

The suit also alleges that both Sony and Square Enix blamed the issue on each other. Square Enix said the issue resulted from Sony’s console, and Sony blamed the issue on a faulty Final Fantasy XIII game disc. Neither company allegedly offered to cover the cost of repairing PS3 consoles.

The class seeks more than $5 million in damages and other financial relief.

Square Enix has not responded to requests for comment at this time. Sony told IGN it does not comment on legal matters.

1

Square Enix, Inc., the publisher of SQUARE ENIX interactive entertainment products in North America, announced today that it is partnering with Obsidian Entertainment, Inc. on DUNGEON SIEGE 3. With input from the original developer, Gas Powered Games, Obsidian Entertainment will develop the next incarnation of the DUNGEON SIEGE franchise with Square Enix as the game’s publisher. Coming for the first time to high-def home video game consoles, DUNGEON SIEGE 3 will be available for PlayStation3 computer entertainment system, the Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system from Microsoft and Windows PC.

DUNGEON SIEGE 3 is representative of Square Enix’s ongoing strategic partnerships with Western game developers and its commitment to increasing its presence in the North American market. The game will bring together the beloved aspects of the DUNGEON SIEGE franchise with Obsidian Entertainment’s expertise, to create an evolved action-RPG experience. In addition to its arrival on high-def consoles for the first time, the game will also feature an all-new co-op multiplayer mode.

Originally created by Chris Taylor and his critically-acclaimed studio Gas Powered Games, Taylor will serve as an advisor during the development of the game. DUNGEON SIEGE 3 will seamlessly blend intuitive action gameplay and a robust RPG system in an immersive world where every decision the player makes will result in consequences.

On his involvement, Taylor comments, “It’s a great pleasure to collaborate with Obsidian. They are a very talented developer who really knows what it takes to build a deep and engaging RPG experience, and I can’t think of a better group to continue the Dungeon Siege series.”

“It’s a distinct privilege and thrill to become a part of the DUNGEON SIEGE legacy,” said Feargus Urquhart, CEO and Co-Founder of Obsidian Entertainment, Inc. “This partnership with Square Enix is a milestone for both Obsidian and the franchise, and the two companies’ strengths for compelling characters and storytelling will shine throughout DUNGEON SIEGE 3.”

“With their proven track record of developing some of the most exciting and engaging games in recent memory, we are honored to be working with such a talented developer as Obsidian Entertainment,” said John Yamamoto, president and chief executive officer of Square Enix, Inc. “Square Enix is committed to expanding our portfolio of games across a wide variety of genres and we are confident we will deliver the ultimate DUNGEON SIEGE experience that fans are looking for.”

Power Gig to be at E3

Power Gig: Rise of the SixString will be the true evolution of the band videogame experience when it arrives this fall with a genuine six string guitar as controller. The guitar features Seven45’s proprietary technology that can distinguish and recognize gamers’ input all along the guitar, making the guitars as easy to pick up and play as any other band game button controllers. They also include all the guts of an electric guitar so players can plug their SixString guitars into any standard amplifier. In addition to traditional beat-matching that will be familiar to fans of the band game genre, Power Gig also introduces the option to switch on chording, which presents the added challenge of playing the game using chords that require specific finger placement on the strings. As players progress through the game, becoming more comfortable with a genuine guitar and potentially choosing to play real power chords, they will find that the byproduct of playing the game is coming away from it with an understanding of some real-life guitar fundamentals.

The AirStrike drum controller consists of two drumsticks and a small unit that rests by the player’s feet that features unique technology that can differentiate the right drumstick from the left. It is this recognition that allows gamers to play the drums with much more true-to-life movement than the drum game peripherals already on the market. This new, engaging style of drum gameplay offers opportunity both for more creativity and more challenge. An added benefit to the design is that the AirStrike is more portable and convenient for gamers who don’t want to clutter their homes with large toy drum units.

So far Eric Clapton, Dave Matthews Band and Kid Rock have each entered into exclusive agreements with Seven45 Studios to provide songs for Power Gig: Rise of the SixString.
