Jabra Revo Wireless Review

0

It’s hard to find a good quality headphone when the market is saturated in them. It’s even harder for a pair of Bluetooth headphones but it looks like Jabra has stepped into the market. Known for their headsets, Jabra’s Revo has had an impressive run but the Revo Wireless looks to take all the glory. Does it stand a chance with other Bluetooth headphone competitors?

Hardware
The best thing the Revo Wireless has going for it is the design. Sporting a very similar look to Beats Solo’s and wireless, along with their own Revo wired it’s a slick on ear design. Not too big or small and the whole thing has a nice metal to plastic ratio. The memory foam on the ear cups help prolong use as on ear headphones can become uncomfortable quickly. They also become very portable by folding up which many headphones do nowadays, however does it very tightly and neatly.

One of our favorite things on the Revo Wireless was the flush touchpad controls on the outside of the right earpiece. Rotating your finger in a circular motion on it will raise or lower the volume depending on clockwise/counter clockwise. You can also skip or replay a track by double tapping at either ends of the earpiece, while clicking the center will pause it. The cords it comes with one being USB for charging or using it with the computer when you want to listen wired. The other cord is a 3.5mm itself to plug into phones or other devices which can also answer calls. Clicking in the center is also used to answer and hangup phone calls when wired as well.

We actually gone through the liberty and test the quality in different mediums to get a sense of what it could and should be used for.

Our testing

Movies
When plugged directly into a home theater receiver to watch a blu-ray movie and on the PC we found the to mix quite a bit. There were some good bass explosion sound effects and action scenes were something to note but scenes involving a mix of dialogue and action seem to get somewhat lost with itself.

Gaming
Testing on several games when hooked up to a Astro 7.1 mixamp we found the sound quality for gaming to be acceptable. Shooters were notably different then others with a sense gunshots sounding like they are right there in front of you. The transfer of sound to other environmental things going on stacks together, not leaving much room for separation.

Music
Probably the best use and best sound you will receive from them. Highs and mids give good bass and enough clarity to enjoy most genres of music.

Overall Performance
We think the Revo Wireless performs great. It is notably better to have it wired then wireless but many people will enjoy the sound right out of the box. When paring with IOS smartphones you can download the Jabra app that they have teamed up with Dobly for. The Dobly Digital Plus will give you access to many cool features. To put it short it’s its own music player with a ton of equalizer options. If used correctly will give you a unique sound for all types of music.

The battery goes through a decent use before having to recharge, giving you warnings to do so. It is rated for 12 hours and when pairing between three different devices stood pretty well to last awhile.

Our biggest complaints is not that surprising overall. The stability when pairing to computers as it would either need several retry’s or inhibited small popping sounds when audio was in use at times. The price at retail is $250 which to us is only slightly high, compared to others we have found these to be a bit more pleasant to use.

Conclusion
With everything factoring in the Revo Wireless gives you plenty of options to play with for all types of use. Above average sound, quality design and its own app for a better music experience, it’s hard to top this. While not the cheapest it offers more then even some of the higher priced wireless headphones.

Deadpool review

Lets face it, video game adaptions from any kind of series whether it be comic book, movie or book is one of the hardest things to do. Not only does the character/s you have to portray be like its origin but any sort of wrong doing becomes easily scrutinize by the fans that follow it. Deadpool has to be one of the craziest, schizophrenic, homicidal, characters we’ve ever come across in any series and High Moon Studios does a fantastic job of bringing him to life in video game format, unfortunately some of the games charm gets lost in the simplicity of it all.

In a simple approach to breakdown Deadpool as a character he is an anti-hero merc for higher. Experimented on and given Wolverines healing factor but making him insane in the process. One thing is undeniable about this game, is that it’s damn funny! The lines, his antics, and everything in between has made me more then chuckle throughout it. Not to mention that he is fully aware that he is in a video game and wants to make it his game, the ultimate game of all time. On this quest that he has basically penned himself their are a couple of well known X-Men universe cameos like Wolverine and Cable. All of which share their views on Deadpool but also need your help along the way.

There are some very interesting stages in this game. It looks like the team were really having fun making one very outlandish game. From the 8bit over the top Zelda style level to another games styled level which we want to not spoil it’s a game that seems to take these crazy chances in those forms. The game also has a colorful detail and cutscenes really make him standout.

The combat gives you a few toys at your disposal. Some guns, twin sai daggers, katanas and more. All of which can be upgradable with DP points that is acquired during the game. This gives you access to more moves, boosting stats and finishing moves. The playbook from the combat comes out of the Batman Arkham games which should be nothing but positive but it all feels repetitive after awhile and actually a bit loose in its controls as well. Chaining combos together and seeing how high of a number you can get is actually fun to do. Though the guns themselves don’t really feel like they gel all that well with the combat itself. One of its saving graces is the teleportation you have which Deadpool is also known for. In the chaos of combat it is very handy to use and get you out of any situation.

Aside the combat faults we did go ahead and mention some of the crazy stages you might encounter when playing but we can’t help but feel like there’s a whole lot missing here. Stages are linear and very to the point. Their’s not much room for exploration here which hinders on Deadpool’s “don’t give a shit” free spirit. We honestly are not sure why a game like this isn’t just open world as it makes more sense with the combat and all over the place he is.

Deadpool the video game is a crazy but great idea. The execution is met half way with how spot on the made him from the Comic series but the lackluster levels, linear motion and loose combat brings the whole thing down a couple of notches. High Moon brings the character to life in such a way you will seriously laugh out loud, if only the world around him was at such high standards, we would have a really great game on our hands not to mention any form of multiplayer would be greatly welcomed.

Syfy Gives Our “Heroes of Cosplay” Mainstream Media Attention – Good Idea?

0

Where there’s a fandom, there are cosplayers. Dressing up as your favorite character or even an object can be serious business. I like to think of cosplay as more of an exclusive event. Not everyone does it or knows about it but it does exist. It mostly happens for photoshoots, events and conventions (Though some of us probably wouldn’t mind it if we could dress up daily). But because of all this, it doesn’t really get much attention from other people. Unless it’s for a huge event like E3 or a Comic Con. Until now…

Next month, Syfy is going to air a 6 episode documentary series about cosplay called “Heroes of Cosplay”.  The series will feature several big names from the cosplay world and have them create cosplay from popular series for cash prizes. I think Syfy enjoys contests like this because it sure sounds like their other series “Face Off”. Only now, it’s for cosplay.

I, myself, am a little skeptical of how this could go. This could really open new doors for cosplay in general and show creators just how much of an impact their creations have. Conventions and events could get more recognition than just the big ones like E3 and Comic Con. Or this series could go really bad and just ridicule cosplay as a whole. Being a cosplayer doesn’t mean everything goes perfect and there is drama and disappointment. But that doesn’t mean it’s not worth it.

The series starts Tuesday, August 13 at 10:30 PM ET/PT before moving to its regular time Tuesdays at 10 PM, starting August 20th. I’ll just watch and hope for the best.

NCAA decides against renewing EA contract

In what seems to be a move for a possible deal with another game maker, the NCAA decided to not renew their contract with publisher Electronic Arts (EA).

Not renewing the contract means EA Sports will not be able to use the logo and NCAA name for their college football video games. NCAA Football 2014, which just released this month, will be the last game in the EA-NCAA football series. The NCAA’s reasoning for not renewing their contract had to do with the costs of maintaining such a relation. “…[G]iven the current business climate and costs of litigation, we determined participating in this game is not in the best interests of the NCAA.”

The NCAA has never licensed the use of current student-athlete names, images or likenesses to EA. The NCAA has no involvement in licenses between EA and former student-athletes.

Though the NCAA has decided against renewing their license, they write that it is up to the colleges and universities to license their trademarks, logos and other intellectual properties. “They will have to independently decide whether to continue those business arrangements in the future.”

Dishonored: The Brigmore Witches DLC Release Date Announced

It has just been announced that Dishonored: The Brigmore Witches, the final add-on pack for the first-person action game developed by Arkane Studios, will be available worldwide on August 13, 2013 (PS3 in Europe on August 14) for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC for $9.99 or 800 Microsoft Points.

In The Brigmore Witches, continue your journey as the legendary assassin, Daud, and bring his twisted narrative that began with The Knife of Dunwall to a close. After discovering the identity and intentions of Delilah, the leader of the Brigmore Witch coven, you set out to disrupt her from completing a powerful ritual that will spell your doom. Having already been betrayed by your lieutenant, Billie Lurk, you must rely on feuding gang factions—the Dead Eels and the Hatters—to negotiate your way through previously unseen districts of Dunwall en route to Delilah’s stronghold. Regardless of the way you reach your destination, one thing is for certain – you will finally answer for your treacherous actions and fall before the mercy, or punishment, of the Royal Bodyguard and Assassin, Corvo Attano. Additionally, your power, weapon and item upgrades, Chaos level, and player actions from The Knife of Dunwall will carry over via a compatible save file option.

New Angry Bird: Star Wars game releasing in September

0

Angry Birds creator Rovio announced a new game in the Angry Bird series releasing in September.

Angry Birds: Star Wars 2, which will fling into mobile devices around the world on September 19. As teased last week, the game will incorporate new birds and elements from the Star Wars prequels.

As the great and powerful Yogurt said in the 1987 classic Spaceballs, “Merchandising, merchandising, where the real money from the movie is made.”

Angry Birds will now incorporate “Telepods.” Devices that will allow players to transport their physical toy into the game. Yup, they Skylandered Angry Birds. Why? Probably because the Skylanders series is wildly successful and has already surpassed a billion dollars in sales. It’s what the house of the mouse is betting on with Disney Infinity.
