Nothing screams the holiday literally, like a good holiday popup and New York City will have a few going on this season. Below are a few with some details on when and where to join when they open!
Donner & Blitzen’s Reindeer Lounge at The Springs
Donner & Blitzen’s Reindeer Lounge can be found this year at The Springs in Greenpoint, Brooklyn after first popping up at No Malice Palace last year. The lounge serves up holiday treata like the Fondue You See What I See, The Office Party Cookie Plate, Fried S’mores, and more. Be sure to look out for holiday programming with DJs on the weekends and Ugly Sweater Parties every night. Open from November 30th – December 30th at 224 Franklin Street in Brooklyn. We managed to check things out and can tell you the drinks are as tasty as they are festive. Website
FREEHOLD Winter Lodge
FREEHOLD Winter Lodge is a fully enclosed indoor/outdoor heated courtyard and penthouse lodge space decked with festive lights, a massive Christmas tree, fireplace, blankets and pillows to create this winter wonderland. Perfect for a cozy date, private dinner with friends, or holiday party for up to 200 people, FREEHOLD Winter Lodge will get you in the holiday spirit! Open now through January 15th at 45 S. 3rd Street in Brooklyn. Website
North Williamsburg Pole at Clinton Hall
Clinton Hall’s courtyard at the POD BK Hotel will be dubbed the North Williamsburg Pole complete with a giant LED lit Christmas tree decked with beer can ornaments, faux snow, reindeers and more. There will be random appearances by Santa and his elves throughout December and guests will be invited to indulge in DIY s’more making, Egg Nog cheesecake pops, roasted chestnuts and spiked hot chocolate. Candy cane shot-skis will come with a chance to win a ski-weekend or summer camp adventure courtesy of Club Getaway. This pop up will be open from 12/11 – 2/11 at Clinton Hall Williamsburg’s Courtyard (247 Metropolitan Ave in Brooklyn
Haven Ski Chalet at The Sanctuary Hotel
Haven Rooftop at The Sanctuary Hotel has transformed into a winter wonderland in the sky, called Haven Ski Chalet. This heated, all-season Midtown rooftop is lit in white lights with holiday décor throughout and even has faux snow machines to add to the ambiance. Cocktails including the Toasted Almond, Peppermint Cream, Ginger Toddy and Shot Skis will be served up alongside chocolate fondue to keep guests warm, no matter what the weather’s like outside. Open now through the end of January at 132 W. 47th Street. www.havenrooftop.com
Helliday Inn at The Skinny
The Skinny will take a twisted approach to the norm, boasting an anti-holiday themed pop up this year. The flashy, if not down right tacky, décor, unique cocktail and food menu offerings and the programming meant to interact and engage all help to thread the line between the absurd, self indulgent commercialization the holidays have become and the desire to still embrace it. Ornate Christmas lights and decorations cram every square inch from floor to ceiling, Santa’s Reindeer heads line red painted walls and living room vignettes complete with fireplaces provide the perfect backdrop for a Hangry Santa’s workshop. Santa’s Wheel of Misfortune, provides customers with the opportunity to pay for chance to spin and win or in most cases lose. A miserable Santa will be on premises nightly, and there will be nights with piano playing to accompany customers dirty Christmas caroling along with drag and burlesque shows throughout the week, Krampus Karaoke and Trivia. Don’t be surprised to see a tarot card reader dressed at Jacob Marley, stumble in on “Sleigh and Lay” speeding dating or “Goodfellas Christmas” 50’s-70’s music dress up on any given night. Helliday Inn is open now through January 31st at 174 Orchard St https://www.theskinny-nyc.com

Microsoft shed light on their new gaming service: Project xCloud.
Project xCloud’s state-of-the-art global game-streaming technology will offer you the freedom to play on the device you want without being locked to a particular device, empowering gamers to be at the center of the gaming experience.
Project xCloud is about providing gamers — console or PC — new choices in when and where they play, while giving mobile-only players access to worlds, characters and immersive stories.
Developers of the more than 3,000 games available on Xbox One today, and those building the thousands that are coming in the future, will be able to deploy and dramatically scale access to their games across all devices on Project xCloud with no additional work.
Microsoft will begin public trials in 2019. Their focus is on delivering an amazing added experience to existing Xbox players and on empowering developers to scale to hundreds of millions of new players across devices.
Microsoft’s goal with Project xCloud is to deliver a quality experience for all gamers on all devices that’s consistent with the speed and high-fidelity gamers experience and expect on their PCs and consoles.
Project xCloud will have Backwards compatibility with existing Xbox games along with future games. Microsoft architected a new customizable blade that can host the component parts of multiple Xbox One consoles, as well as the associated infrastructure supporting it. It will scale those custom blades in datacenters across Azure regions over time.
The test runs on devices (mobile phones, tablets) paired with an Xbox Wireless Controller through Bluetooth, and it is also playable using touch input. Microsoft is developing a new, game-specific touch input overlay that provides maximum response in a minimal footprint for players who choose to play without a controller.
Cloud game-streaming is a multi-faceted, complex challenge. Unlike other forms of digital entertainment, games are interactive experiences that dynamically change based on player input. Delivering a high-quality experience across a variety of devices must account for different obstacles, such as low-latency video streamed remotely, and support a large, multi-user network. In addition to solving latency, other important considerations are supporting the graphical fidelity and framerates that preserve the artist’s original intentions, and the type of input a player provides.
Stay tuned for more in on Microsoft’s Project xCloud!

Sony announced it make an open beta that will allow for Fortnite cross-platform play between the PlayStation 4 and iOS, Android, the Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, Microsoft Windows and Mac.
The beta is to test the user experience of cross-platform play. If this test goes well, the company may be open to cross-platform play on other games in the future.
Part of the appeal of Fortnite has been the ability to play with other gamers, regardless of the platform you are on. PlayStation users could not take adavatage of that. They were restricted to only PSN players.
For an example, SIE’s restrictive policies ensured that players could not sign into an Epic Games account linked to PSN from their Nintendo Switch.
Sony is revisiting its non-supportive position on cross-platform gaming, which is great opportunity for Fortnite and other cross-platform friendly game. Other popular games such as Minecraft and Rocket League have been affected by SIE’s lack of support for cross-platform playing.
The info regarding the release date of the beta, and how you can get access had yet to be announce.
Had the chance to visit A Video Game Con, or AVGC, this past week and literally it is exactly what it’s called, and I was happily surprised. If you haven’t heard of AVGC, it’s about time that you did because it’s an up and coming convention that has been evolving to greatness for four years and it’s not even in it’s final form.
This is the first year that AVGC has filled the halls of the Meadowlands Expo Center in Secaucus, New Jersey. Upgrading from Parsippany PAL in New Jersey, the Meadowlands Expo Center being a bigger venu definitely gave a lot more to convention goers. Having an entire floor of free to play games from old retro consoles like the Atari all the way up to new consoles and even PC’s running Starcraft. Not only did they have free console play but they also had free arcade play. They had oldschool favorites like a cocktail arcade with Centipede, The Simpsons Bowling, Double Dragon, Ms. Pacman, a couple of fighting games like Yu Yu Hakusho, Dragon Ball Z Fighters arcade, and Mobile Suit Gundam: Extreme Vs. Those were just a handful of the games that were available to play.
Along with games they had vendors as well, selling everything from amazing framed 3d art, commissioned drawings, and even hard to find old retro games. Some of the stuff you could find there was astounding. I saw old Famicom games imported from Japan, old consoles still in their original boxes, even original games that were still wrapped. Besides having a great array of vendors, AVGC also offered different types of panels, cosplayers, and music throughout the convention hall. There’s definitely something for everyone and a great place to hang out with friends. Next year if you’re in the Secaucus area I highly suggest dropping by and checking out AVGC.
We got to review the Elite Aeon ALR Projector Screen Review for over a year now which we’ve tested out with gaming and 4K video. We’ve used Epson mid range projectors like 3700, Optoma 131X to the Epson 5040ub and Optoma UHD60 with surprising results across them all. This gives any mid to long range projector the quality it deserves and if you’ve been on the fence with gaming on a projector this should make you reconsider but check out the full review for our recommendation.
