Dead Space Novel Is In The Works

Tor Books, an imprint of Tom Doherty Associates, LLC—the largest publisher of science fiction in the world—and Visceral Games , a studio of Electronic Arts Inc, today announced Dead Space: Martyr (A Tor Trade Paperback; $14.99; July 2010), the first novel based on the award-winning Dead Space videogame franchise. Dead Space: Martyr delves into the back story of the fiction including the history of the Church of Unitology, the discovery of the enigmatic “Black Marker” and the mysteries behind an alien artefact of unknown power. Dead Space: Martyr will be available in July 2010 at select retailers worldwide.

When geophysicist Michael Altman learns of a mysterious signal emitting from deep within the Chicxulub crater, he cannot resist the lure of an undiscovered artefact. He soon learns that being in close proximity to the artefact causes strange occurrences – visions of the dead, vivid dreams, and violent murders. Altman’s experience with the alien artefact leads to this crucial first chapter in the Dead Space saga.

“One of the most compelling storytelling aspects of Dead Space has been the Church of Unitology: its origins, power, and role in Dead Space,” says Tor editor, Eric Raab. “Writer B.K. Evenson gets into the terrifying aspects of mob mentality like no other writer today. This isn’t only a great story within the Dead Space universe; it’s a great novel on its own.”

“The Dead Space world is incredibly vast and rich — expanding its fiction into a novel lets us share parts of the story that just can’t fit into videogames,” said Steve Papoutsis, Executive Producer of Dead Space 2.  “We hope Dead Space: Martyr will be the first of many books to let fans dive deeply into Dead Space’s secrets and immersive lore.”

B. K. Evenson is the award-winning author of Last Days, voted best horror novel of 2009 by the American Library Association and The Open Curtain, a 2006 Edgar Award finalist and Time Out New York best book of the year.

Originally launched in 2008, Dead Space quickly became one of EA’s top rated wholly-owned intellectual properties. With close to 100 industry awards and an average critic score of 89*, Dead Space became a hit with horror and videogame fans worldwide. In 2009, EA launched Dead Space Extraction, a prequel to the original game and will continue to expand the fiction with its stunning sequel, Dead Space 2.

Gears of War 3 interview Details & “Ashes to Ashes” Trailer

0

Last night, Cliff Bleszinski was on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon to debut the brand new trailer for Gears of War 3. After talking about his childhood and how he got into the video game industry, Bleszinski showed the trailer.

The titled ‘Ashes to Ashes’ trailer shows one COG soldier running through lifeless stone figures of people in city covered in fallen ash and soot. The people of the town are frozen in place most likely due to some volcanic eruption (Imulsion?). It seems that many were trying to escape, while others accepted their fates. The fleeing unknown soldier then falls (Dominic Santiago? Adam Fenix?)while being shot at. Just as the enemy Locust were about to finish him off he is then rescued by Marcus Fenix who is holding a doubled barrel shotgun. Then a new female COG solider helps the unknown soldier by handing him a gun. Baird and Cole then join the fight. As the Locust come closer they are attacked by a new creature with long tentacles. The video comes to a close with all 5 soldiers surrounded by enemies as the screen shows ‘Brothers To The End’

Bleszinski then shares some new details about the game. The new enemy with the tentecles are called the Lambent, which can also mutate while fighting them. New weapons such as the doubled barrel shotgun and female soldiers have been added to the game. Bleszinski then states that the game will be released “probably about April 8 of 2011.”

In an official release, Microsoft says that Gears of War 3 will realease April 5, 2011 in North America and Asia, April 7 in Japan, and April 8 in Europe and the rest of the world.

Review: Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Stimulus Package DLC

If your sick of playing the same maps over and over in the ever popular Modern Warfare 2, well your in luck. The Stimulus Package DLC has finally arrived and it delivers 5 multiplayer maps but at a hefty 1200 Microsoft points, so is it worth your hard earned cash?

The Stimulus Package delivers 5 additional multiplayer maps featuring a variety of locations: First is “Bailout” a multi-level apartment complex. This map excelled the most on every game type and seemed to be the largest of them. Two houses and two buildings connecting to each other with open areas all around them made this our favorite map. “Storm” is an open industrial park littered with heavy machinery. This stage was had great spots to do just about everything in. players will never want to stay in one place two long but has some great hiding spots none the less. “Salvage” is a snowy junkyard fortified by stacked debris and crushed cars. You can go through pipes, some buildings and two open fields. We weren’t particularly found of this map compared to the others as everything seemed to narrow and had flew spots to flank and kill the opposing team.

Two legendary fan-favorites maps from Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare return, including “Crash” a war-torn urban environment. This was the map that was apart of the first Modern Warfare’s beta on the Xbox 360 before its release and is definitely memorable. This one has tons of hiding places and some areas that don’t get scavenged until a couple of playthroughs. “Overgrown” which features a massive dry creek bed in the center and two bridges on the opposite sides. Several parts of this map have sniper points and each end of the map look very different from each other giving it a nice blend.

Overall the experience of the game is expanded with these maps, all welcomed additions and much needed. If your a casual player of COD: MW2 then you may want to hold off for a discounted price but for those who want more action this will definitely hold you off until the next map pack sees release.

Overall = 8.5
