Grand Theft Auto: Episodes From Liberty City Review [PS3]

Grand Theft Auto: Episodes From Liberty City is the combination of the two DLC expansions “The Lost and Damned” and “The Ballad of Gay Tony”. After nearly almost a year, the PS3 finally gets its dues from Rockstar. While there is nothing really different from these previously released versions on the Xbox 360, the PS3 version is sure to sell due to the PS3 fan base of the GTA franchise.

The Lost and Damned gives you the same action from the original GTA 4, but biker gang style. The main protagonist is Johnny Klebitz who is in this gang called The Lost. This part of GTA shows an interesting tale from Johnny’s prospective, leading the gang in the right direction with the new blend of characters to take part in the shoot outs and car/bike pursuits. There are gang turf battles that are always fun and there are a lot of them. Some of the missions even mix in the other protagonist Niko, mainly to show you that there are more sides to the story. Within the expansion you get the sense that their’s a far more serious tone to The Lost and Damned. Compared to the other new campaign on this disc, some of the decisions don’t sit well with you. New weapons such as a machine pistol, pipe bombs, assault shotgun, and a grenade launcher are here. Not a cranny is missing Liberty City, as the whole thing is available from the start, which helps not having to wait and unlock the city like the original game.

There are new multiplayer modes with this game: Witness Protection, one team plays offense to destroy a bus while one plays defense to protect it. Race, is bike racing with weapons. Lone Wolf Biker, where the one who holds the title as the Lone Wolf the longest wins. Own the City, gang war control of a section of the city like graffiti. Club Business, like the Mafia mode in GTA 4 but with 8 players and Chopper vs. Chopper, the biker must escape the attacking helicopter chasing them.

If the Lost and Damned storyline is the stern and gritty side of GTA then The Ballad of Gay Tony is the fun and brighter side of GTA but still in a violent way. What people may not know is that there are 3 sides to the Dominican ex-con Luis Lopez: the bodyguard, the manager, and the business partner. Luis works for Anthony Prince the owner of two of the biggest nightclubs in Liberty City. Luis has to protect “Gay Tony” after he gets in too deep from borrowing money from some shady people. The missions that Luis takes part in are for the most part pretty good. Lot of things end either massacred or blown up. There are lots of extra activities for you to participate in. Some that stuck with us are club managing, air hockey, and base jumping. Base Jumping is great, it can happen almost anywhere, helicopter, top of a high building, just make sure you open that parachute.! The high performance sports cars and aircrafts are new in this segment in GTA, along with some new weapons.

As a double packaged disc the game gives you better vechicle controls, better check point system, some of the best voice dialogue as always and more radio station with some pretty good tracks. Each story takes at least 10-12 hours, give or take. The Lost and Damned can get a little depressing while The Ballad of Gay Tony is quite eccentric.  All and all Rockstar brings that GTA 4 longevity to the PS3 that they’ve been asking for. If you are a fan of the series or want to give GTA another go, check this double adventure.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Trailer live!

[The game will probably be rated M from the ESRB so keep in mind before watching the trailer]

Last night Game Trailers on Spike TV debuted the first trailer for Call of Duty: Black Ops. If you weren’t lucky enough to catch it, then we have it here for you right now!. As far as we can see in the trailer you definitely will be traveling in places we haven’t been to before as Treyarch mentioned. From the looks of it they have in the least pinned the game to post Vietnam but maybe flashbacks are in order as well. Treyarch has some big shoes to fill, let’s see where this franchise goes. I know I myself am very eager to see if follow the success to the ever so popular Modern Warfare 2.

Featuring the voices of renowned actors Don Cheadle and Samuel L. Jackson, music from intense metal acts like Lamb of God, and an all-new story featuring contributions from renowned comic book author Matt Fraction, Iron Man 2: The Video Game takes the franchise to the next level.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Announced

Treyarch has just announcd a release date and name for it’s next Call of Duty game.  Call of Duty: Black Ops will be due out later this year in November 2010. So far the website doesn’t really have anything yet but I have a feeling that there will be a lot in store for us.   Who knows what direction Treyarch will take us in this time, modern for the first time?, maybe retro again?.

“We can’t wait for our community to experience Call of Duty: Black Ops,” said Mark Lamia, Studio Head for Treyarch. “We have focused our entire studio on this game, with dedicated multiplayer, single-player and co-op teams creating the most intense, gripping and riveting experience possible for our fans on all fronts.” I’m sure whatever they have to offer will still be great, in the very least keep our minds off of the Activision + Infinity Wards fiasco.

Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light out this summer

Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light is the first download only title from Crystal Dynamics and the first Co-op Lara Croft game. A classic formula of puzzles, combat and exploration coupled with breath-taking visuals deliver this fast-paced, isometric gaming experience.

When Lara Croft finds the long lost Temple of Light in the mountains of Central America, she unwittingly frees an evil spirit determined to plunge the world into eternal darkness. Alongside Totec, a Mayan tribesman, you must hunt down the Mirror of Smoke in what will be a new and incredible adventure.

Famed fantasy artist Michael Komarck captures an intense and epic moment as we see Lara Croft and Totec fight for survival in the first official piece of key art for Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light.

Dead Space 2 Reveal Trailer and Website Now Live!

Visceral Games has finally went live with their Dead Space 2 website. As an added bonus of their site going live they have released a new “Reveal” trailer. The website so far contains two high def. wallpapers, a memorial of the Ishimura, and an audio log of the crew that finds Isaac Clarke. Plenty has been offered on the new site so far, but there are a lot of empty spaces for much more to be added, of course we’ll do all the work and gather the information. Keep checking back here for updates!

Full length [Extended] Halo Reach “Birth of a Spartan” live action video

1

Brace yourselves for a riveting glimpse into one of the darkest secrets of the “Halo” universe. This week premiered “Birth of a Spartan” live-action short directed by award-winning director Noam Murro. “Birth of a Spartan” is a stirring depiction of the transformation of Carter 259, the future leader of Noble Team in “Halo: Reach,” from an ordinary young man to a superhuman Spartan warrior.

The highly classified bio-augmentation procedure is a Spartan candidate’s final and most difficult ordeal before joining the ranks of the legendary soldiers. The dramatic interpretation of Carter’s rebirth as a Spartan embodies the themes of courage, sacrifice and honor in “Halo: Reach” and gives viewers a unique look into the origins of a central character in the upcoming blockbuster game. Note: This is the extended full length version of the video shown on Tuesday, enjoy.
