New York Comic Con 2016 Recap madness

The great thing about October isn’t just Halloween but New York Comic Con! I headed out to this year’s convention and met up with a lot of great companies, some of my favorite cosplayers, and check out a couple games. Here’s are some highlights of the event.

Every year it seems like NYCC is getting bigger and busier. With events inside the Jacob Javitz Center to Madison Square Garden and even Time Square, that’s not even including after parties, it’s super hard to see everything. That’s why it’s important to plan your days and nights out as best you can, sad to say that even with the planning I’ve done it’s like I didn’t plan at all once I got there, even though I actually planned to attend 2 months in advance. Luckily this wasn’t our first convention and had a slight idea what I wanted to hit up and see.

To kick things off first stop was the gaming area, Square Enix, Capcom, Bandai Namco and DICE had booths that were set up and showed off some amazing things. A couple of companies that we’re surprised didn’t really have a showing was Ubisoft, especially since they have the new Assassin’s creed movie on the horizon, even more so Watchdogs 2, Ghost Recon Wild Lands, and even more so South Park: The Fractured But Whole. Lastly Atlus, which is super known for the Shin Megami Tensei series and the Persona series, which are great animated games and even great animated series. Some notable games on the show floor this time around were Final Fantasy XV, Dragon Quest Builders which was released on the 11th, Battle Field 1, Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2, and a VR experience of Resident Evil which was impossible to get into.
nyc-cc-16-lvlone4
Surprisingly or not so much there were a lot of different VR experiences, everything from the new HBO show Westworld, Amazon’s show Man in the High Castle, and even a John Wick experience, some if not all were constantly busy or required special tickets to attend the events if not press. Big presence as VR has become the ultimate push this year with the Playstation VR just releasing as well.

Besides the VR experiences they had a lot of merchandise booths. Booths ranging from everything to toys, comics, shirts, retro console games, commissioned artwork, and even artisan popcorn was available at the convention. I was happy to say that I got to visit one of my favorite clothing companies at the con, Musterbrand, if you haven’t heard of this company definitely look into it. My first time getting clothing from the company was with the Resident Evil anniversary collection when I picked up two of the Resident Evil hoodies. At the booth I got to work with Karrie, she introduced me to some of the different collections such as the Deus Ex, Star Wars, and Zelda collections. Their designs are one of a kind and the quality is top notch. I was lucky enough to get my hands on one of the last few Zelda Link Cape-Knitted hoodie. To top it off as I was checking things out I ran into Meg Turney which was already wearing the hoodie I was wearing Ryan Haywood from Rooster Teeth, and not soon after YouTube personality Steve Zaragosa from Source Fed Nerd right around the corner at the Stubborn Soda booth.

To say the least my visit to NYCC was amazing, and actually seeing celebrities that I would not have expected to see was awesome in itself. When they say anything can happen at Comic Con they really do mean it. If you ever get a chance to attend a Comic Con I highly suggest planning things out and finding out what’s going on in and around the convention center not just the days of but at least a week leading up to the convention.

Epson’s stepping it up with the HC 3700 this year

0

Epson has be coming in the game of projectors in a big way the past couple of years. Last year they had effectively one of the better LCD 1080p projectors to get with their Home Cinema 2040 model, this year they look to refresh it with newer features. We got a chance to take a brief look at the 3700 and some of its features this year.

Compared the the 2040 and 2045 of last year, this year they’ve increased the brightness of the 1080p projector to 3000 Lumens vs 2200 Lumens from before. Deeper black levels up to 70,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio versus 35,000:1. Also adding Epson Image Enhancement Technology features Super-resolution with Detail Enhancement to sharpen and refine images for lifelike smoothness and clarity from their higher end PJ’s. Along with captivating sound with two built-in 10 W stereo speakers deliver lifelike sound without the need for additional speakers, to compare the HC 2045 features only one speaker. Pricing details have not be released yet as it’s looking to come out within the next few weeks or so but check in to get full details on performance when that happens.

PowerEgg drone to take flight this year

0

Powervision has been a player in the drone space for quite sometime now but it looks like this year they’re looking to bring that technology to a consumer level with the PowerEgg. We got a chance to take a brief look at the PowerEgg and some of its upcoming features and it looks to cater to both novice and hardcore drone flyers.

The PowerEgg to simply put it looks like big egg, weighting in at 4.5lbs the wings come out from its sides and when air born will retract its landing legs for better mobility. It sports a 360° 4K HD camera on a 3-axis which will be great to record nice stable footage of all kinds. You can control it with an easy one handed Wii like remote or go with the traditional drone controller for more experienced users. Priced at around $1,288.00 for pre-orders the Power Egg looks to be released in a good few weeks. The build quality looks to be quite impressive but we’ll give you more detail on features and how well it does soon.

Seagate Game Drive for Xbox review: Delete no more

0

This has now become the age where hard drive space is a necessity when playing video games. While it has always been needed for PC’s, console games of this generation are required to have not only the games installed but need lots of space to do so. Both the Xbox One and the PS4 initially come with only a 500gb hard drive which is hardly enough for all the games with massive install sizes and updating them also needs to be factored in. Microsoft knows this and in fact have allowed the use of external hard drives awhile back with the Xbox One and Xbox 360 before that. Seagate has made the official Xbox hard drive but is it the drive you need over any other?
game-drive-for-xbox-2tb-ed3
The Seagate Game Drive for Xbox comes in two sizes of 2tb and 4tb, both of which support Xbox One but only the 2tb supports the Xbox 360. It comes in the Xbox green fashion and is small enough to be tucked away on the side or even on top with no extra cords needed except the one to connect to the Xbox itself. The other good thing about the drive is that it’s also ready to go when you get it and doesn’t need to be formatted. In fact it’s recommended that you don’t formate it at all. Believe it or not my favorite thing about this drive is that it is easy to take with you on the go to bring your content to a friends house or trips. I had a much bigger hard drive attached to my Xbox’s that needed a wall outlet and all, needless to say mobility was at a minimal.

The performance is what you’d expect from Seagate drives which is to say very well. With the USB 3.0 and a drive speed of 5,400 rpm it is if not almost as fast as the internal drive. When testing load times were shaved by even a few seconds so don’t expect to be blown away but know the quality of the drive is on point. Unfortunately because of how the Xbox brand works it doesn’t allow for you to use across the Xbox 360 and the Xbox One together so you’ll need to chose one or get a drive for each if that’s your preference.
microsoft-xbox-one-seagate-green-hard-drive
So here’s the downside to this, by Seagates drives standard it is essential the Expansion Portable external hard drive they already have that is slightly cheaper with the exception of the color scheme and ease of use when you get it. Another one which actually has less to do with the drive and more to do with Xbox is there’s no ability to transfer everything at once from the Xbox One internal drive to this and if you’ve been playing and storing games for awhile (like I have) then this is going to be a pain in the ass to port everything over one by one. With that said it does it at relatively at high speeds with its drive speed.

Bottomline
The Seagate Game Drive for Xbox is an external hard drive plain and simple. What you get with it is knowing you won’t have any compatibility or syncing issues as it’s formatted and good to go out of the xbox. The sleekness of its green xbox shell lends itself well to the console but with so many special edition and color variations we wished they would make an assortment of color options to really have that custom flair when showing off your console to compliment it. A good buy overall and definitely needed with this generation of games.

Libratone One Click review: Accessibility sounds good

0

Libratone has been in the market for awhile making stylish bluetooth speakers that fit perfectly in your home setting but what about those that need a bluetooth speaker for mobility? Libratone is here with their One Click bluetooth speaker for a more on the go experience. Does it give you what you need in a portable speaker?

libratone-one-click-bike
Features
The One Click is a complete refresh of the previous models of Libratone speaker which were very stylish but also expensive. They’ve seemed to be broadening their offerings in bluetooth speaker while not overwhelming the public of options. It sports a sleek design that is known for Libratone with a nice piece of furniture like quality to it. It’s also a bit bigger then a conventional portable speaker which is to say it won’t fit in your pocket but it’s perfectly suitable for your bag or backpack or even holding it around by hand. It has a modular design which is great to have a handle from any angle or different accessories that may be attached to it.

The speaker has an impressive battery life of 12 hours on a single charge and doesn’t take that long to charge at all. With the Libratone App it makes it easy not only to control the speaker with ease but to have more then one going at the same time whether it’s to listen to the same thing in stereo or two different thing. Like some but not all this thing is water resistant which is good to have near a pool or beach or if light rain occurs.

libratone-one-click-review
Sound
The One Click boast a pretty impressive sound for its make and size. It has a 360° full room design for directional listen everywhere, 4 internal speakers drivers to push that along, 3″ woofer and 1″ tweeter. This worked great for centering the speaker to listen from all sides. When compared to other speakers of similar price and size it holds up well with the only issue being a slight lack of base compared to others like Bose. Not only could I show off the One Click but the sound was impressive as well and works for any occasion. It also has a Noise isolating microphone as well you can use which is not something that most have.

Bottom line
If you’re in the market for a on the go bluetooth speaker for listening to outside, at your hotel room, traveling etc. This is one of the better speakers to get. Not only does it give great sound but can get pretty loud as well. Using the app is a breeze and the battery life won’t leave you needing to charge mid trip. The pricing is somewhat premium at $200 currently but your paying for sound and build quality at the end which makes this a must.

Moshi’s Helios Laptop Backpack review: Light as a feather

0

I’ve used many backpacks for travel and for work with some being more functional or practical then others. Some are more stylish and some aren’t but they’ve all have had a perk or two to them. Moshi looks to give you style and function with their Helios designer Laptop Backpack.

Moshi’s Helios Laptop Backpack is designed for 15″ laptops or smaller, with compartments for books, papers and other small items. It’s easily one of the lightest bags I’ve ever put on my back and is weather-resistant to boot. A couple of things we loved about the bag is the custom magnetic buckles that close the bag. This was easily one of the strongest magnets I’ve seen in a bag and can feel confident it stays closed and secure. All the little pockets that you can put a phone, other items of all kinds and the bag has a small hidden rear Napoleon pocket that you can put things like passport when traveling or import documents which was overall a nice touch.
moshi-helios-bag-review2
We also loved how lightweight the Helios was to have on. With a moderate amount in it including a 15″ laptop it still feels as light as a feather. Commuting with different bags and even one that goes from a shoulder bag to a backpack doesn’t always feel comfortable but this is probably the most comfortable I’ve tried on in awhile. This bag is easily one of the stylish backpacks I’ve worn and has gone noticed by others with compliments as such as well.

Our only gripe with the backpack itself is on occasion when you’ve tighten the straps to your liking and proceed to put the bag on sometimes the strap pulls out of the adjusted position which you’d either have to do it again or won’t realize but will have an effect on how the bag is worn. The straps should have a locking position function or a stronger one to hold better.
moshi-helios-bag-review
The Helios Designer Laptop Backpack is one of the best bags I’ve seen of its kind. This has replaced my previous work backpack as the comfort of having the bag on could not be beat. If you’re looking for a bag for travel, your work commute or overall need something of a better material and make this is definitely the bag for you.
