Activision questions PS3 support

Activision CEO Bobby Kotick has recently said in an invertview with The Times that “I’m getting concerned about Sony; the PlayStation 3 is losing a bit of momentum and they don’t make it easy for me to support the platform. It’s expensive to develop for the console, and the Wii and the Xbox are just selling better.” Kotick later offically called for a PS3 price drop.

It would seem that the CEO of Activision may have a point, the PS3 is still $399, the most expensive current console by far. The $399 price might not seem like much but consider that this is Activision, their biggest selling franchise is Guitar Hero, a peripheral based game. The extra costs of such peripherals makes buying the PS3 version of the game much more expensive, especially when we’re talking about band games that reach $170 themselves. Buying a PS3 with any Guitar Hero game can easily reach over $500, in comparison buying a Wii or Xbox 360 with Guitar Hero can be done with around $350.

First Look: Splinter Cell Conviction Xbox 360

Splinter Cell Conviction cinematic trailer

After a (much needed) hiatus it seems like the Splinter Cell series is making its return. Spinter Cell Conviction is back with all the stealth you’ve come to expect, this iteration looks to have no boundaries of what Sam Fisher is ultimately after; Revenge!. Although nothing much has been said about the multiplayer aspect of the game, Double Agent emphasized a great deal on the co-op which still didn’t seem to do well at the end. Hopefully this will succeed in that department, let these amazing vids of the single player hold you over until we get more info about the game.

LVLONE first look: Tatsunoko vs Capcom Ultimate All Stars Wii

Their is no doubt when Capcom announced that it will be bringing Tatsunoko vs Capcom over to American shores the 1% that did everything they could to import it got upset for the amount of money they spent. The other 99% of fans heads were exploding of the mere thought that they will be able to enjoy another Capcom vs game with characters of the likes they’ve never heard of. With Favorites like Ryu and Chun-Li while Alex from Street fighter 3 will join the brawl. Other fighters that will make its first appearance like Veiwtiful, G-Force, a mech from Lost Planet and more will be what makes this title stand out. It saddens me that this will only be released on the Wii but hey at least we’re getting it in the US, beggars can’t be choosers. Expect this title sometime in the fall, we’ll keep you updated.

Madden 2010 Preview with pro-tak animation system video

mad10logoprimaryrgb
In our preview for Madden 2010 we take a closer look at some of the features in the game such as Online Dynasty mode, Franchise mode and the expanded stat range. Here’s what we thought.
One of the most recent developments is the Online Dynasty mode. Similar to the way NCAA Football’s Online Franchise Mode runs, this will allow players so control their team in a dynasty with friends from across the street, or across the country.
Previously announced are the expanded stat range meaning players stats can range from 35-99 instead of 62-99 in some cases. A larger stat range really will separate players’ abilities. Injuries also received a little tweak. Now major injuries will show trainers helping players off, or getting carted off for really serious injuries. Also, for minor injuries, you will receive the option to play through the injury, risking causing a more severe injury.
The adaptive AI feature is also really cool. The computer will react the the plays you run. For example, if you run up the middle often, the computer will call more defensive plays to clog the middle. Similarly, if you pass on every down, the computer will select more of a preventive defense.
QB Stats also received an overhaul. Now accuracy is broken into short, medium and long accuracy. Also the ability to throw on the run and sell the play-action is added to further separate the mediocre QB to the greats.

Wii MotionPlus released

wiimotionplus

Fresh from the thrills of E3, the gaming community is now very excited about the new motion technologies shown by Microsoft and Sony. The problem is these technologies won’t be released for over a year, but you can pick up a 1:1 motion controller today with Nintendo’s Wii MotionPlus.
The new accessory was released somewhat quietly a few days ago for $24.99 and although it’s too early to tell it most likely will stay quiet for at least one more month. The reason because is Nintendo’s accessory was launched with just two games that support the technology: Tiger Woods PGA 2010, and Grand Slam Tennis. Important to note however both games have gotten decent reviews from several sites and critics, IGN has named Tiger Woods ’10 “the definitive golf game on any system”. However neither game is a flagship title nor do they appeal to everyone, leaving many gamers not caring for Wii Motion Plus.

wiimotionpluspa

The reason that it will take a month for Wii MotionPlus to most likely pick up is because of Wii Sports Resort, the sequel to the Wii’s pack in game, Wii Sports Resort is said to fully show off what Wii MotionPlus can do with games like Archery, Sword fighting, and BasketBall. The game will also be shipped as a bundle with MotionPlus, this also adds on to why many gamers are most likely holding off purchasing the accessory. We will keep you up to date on how the Wii MotionPlus fares in sales and reception soon.

Nintendo not worried about Sony and Microsoft

2

marioserious

With both project natal on the Xbox 360 and the Motion controller on the PS3 in the works one might think that Nintendo would start getting scared from the competition. However this is not the case for Miyamoto, in a recent interview he stated that he’s “flattered” his competitors are moving in the same direction as Nintendo but when asked if he was worried he said he wasn’t at all, he later stated that their competitors do not provide the level of depth Wii Motion Plus has.

Of course the real reason he isn’t worried yet is because he doesn’t have to be, Nintendo has a huge hit with the Wii and the brand name has been burned into the minds of casual gamers and the general public who aren’t even gamers. Also both Natal and the PS3 motion controller are nothing more then tech demos at the moment. PS3’s motion targeting a spring release and Project Natal with at least a year away in speculation. Should Nintendo worry? No. Should they start planning ahead? Definitely.
