UPDATE: Sometimes the Girl of Your Dreams Just Might Be Your Worst Nightmare – Catherine

0

You are Vincent, a 32-year-old single man who is thinking about his future. One night, you go to a bar, thinking about everything including the forced decisions of you having to marry your girlfriend of 5 years named Katherine. Then you meet the perfect woman, Catherine, and life just takes you for a loop. Will Vincent be able to stay true to the one who holds his heart or will he give in to the lust? Definitely not a game for younger players.

Atlus’ new puzzle-platformer action-adventure game coming out this summer will also take you on an adventure to find out why all the men in your town are dying in mysterious ways all while trying to sort out your future love life. The player will be given many choices to make and each will give you a different outcome. What you choose will determine how everything plays out and give you one of many endings. Can you make the right choices to get to the end of Vincent’s story while still keeping your morales straight? Life sure is one heck of a ride.

Catch Catherine out on Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 this July!

Livin’ It Up in the Dark Ages – The Sims Medieval

Sims Medieval

Long time Sims fans, in the past, have been able to go on hot dates, vacations, enjoy the nightlife, and even make child-like versions in MySims. And on March 22, they will be able to rule their own kingdom…in the middle ages. The newest addition to the series – The Sims Medieval from EA will allow players to make their own RPG-type game.

Monarchs, Wizards, Spies and many other types of professions will be available to the player as they create their fantasy castle and making their way to the ultimate goal of being extremely wealthy or popular. But like all RPGs, there is a chance you can fail a quest or even lose a character so this Sims game is not like the rest. Thanks to EA, now our minds can rest as we find out exactly how people lived back then.

PAX East 2011 Preview: Section 8 Prejudice

Section 8 Prejudice is a sci-fi based first person shooter developed by TimeGate Studios. The game that I played at PAX East was a 4-player co-op mode entitled Swarm. A tower defense type of game style where you must defend a control point from waves of enemies. Considering this was the first time of me even really checking out Section 8, I didn’t know what to expect.

As soon as I picked up the controller there was a screen called TACNET, basically a load out screen and a small mini-map on the right with a small cross-hair. After clicking on the map the screen changes over to a set of doors that open up to a world and your character is shot out of a drop ship. Unknowingly I was shot to the battlefield away from the main base. Instinctively searching for a sprint button while already pushing forward I noticed that the character seems to automatically kick things into overdrive in a third-person full on sprint. I immediately thought that this game is going to be fun to play. While in third person I noticed a jet pack built into the suit of the character, now I knew this was going to be a fun game.

Game play felt similar to Tribes, and if you never played the PC FPS, then you can compare it to a beefier Halo. Bullets seem to do actual damage, rather than slowly chip away at your enemy’s shields, (although they still have active shields in this game) then health after you reload, a full clip can chew away at two or even three enemies at full health and armor.

If you’re wondering how the tower defense comes into play in the game then I can only explain it in terms of orbital drops. After players frag enough enemies and earn enough money to purchase items, from a buy screen, activated in the hud. After selecting your item, say a turret, a outline of the turret takes the place of your cross-hairs. Placing the outlined turret in whichever position you want initiates the orbital drop of your turret to that exact location.

The level design seems vast but yet small enough so you don’t feel too overwhelmed, and even though there is the full sprint that players can go into there are different types of vehicles players can call in to aid them in battle. The battle mech that I called in was a juggernaut, slow to move but packed a punch… Literally! Getting close enough to punch enemies the mech can perform finishing moves when the enemy’s health is low enough. So far the best one I’ve seen is a mech using a player as a bat and the player’s attack bike as the ball, I’ll leave the rest up to your imagination.

What else might this game have to make it worth your wild? How about the price for the game? Only $15 for a full game with a single player campaign, a 32-player (40 on PC) multiplayer mode, and 4-player co-op. The game will be available for Xbox 360, PC, Playstation 3 this summer, oh and did I mention that TimeGate Studios already has DLC planned for the game?

Test Drive Unlimited 2 Review

Over the past couple of years the racing genre has been having a difficult time grasping the audience they need to really thrive. It’s tough to say what exactly will work and what won’t. Test Drive Unlimited 2 is one of those very ambitious games that pushes so much at you that your not sure what to do with it all. While it does something that no other racers do it somehow misses the mark at the core gameplay of simply having fun. Racing enthusiast may find many things to love about Test Drive Unlimited 2, simple players may find it hard to immediately get into.

The game starts you off as a valet who day dreams of living the high life and is abruptly woken up to only be fired for it. Your given a second chance however as the person that got you fired gives you the opportunity of a life time. Get her to the studio as fast as you can and be entered into the Solar Crown event. Winning races will earn you money and sometimes vehicles. This will also allow you to buy property across the island to place your cars in as well. You will have to get class licenses to progress to higher difficulties and luxurious cars.At this point you should know how this story plays out from here. This all takes place in the open island of Ibiza which is about double the size of the original Test Drive Unlimited island.

While the races for these events sets the story in motion as you progress it doesn’t make it the foreground of what to do. Where TDU 2 shines is that it takes almost everything from its predecessor and doubles it. There is twice the amount of land to race on, twice the amount of challenges and a slew of new features. Cars can now be fitted with decals and all types of customization options. Characters can not only be customized with clothes, hair cuts and accessories but you can seamlessly interact with other players online with the avatar you created.

The online for the game is also some of the best integration there is. Essentially taking the entire island and making it online (of course when you are actually online) and will bring the nearest eight players in your view to interact with. Like the first game I’ve met great people by just exploring the island and coming across a group that were together. You can also challenge players online into a head to head by flashing your headlights at them. The games audio is also above average featuring its own radio stations and a good amount of tracks from different genres.

TDU 2 throws a ton at you and that’s where some of the problems come into play. The game doesn’t know how to manage all the game modes and types of play it has in it. At times it will literally seem like your the most popular person on earth with your cellphone constantly ringing off the hook for new missions that are separate from each other. Making decisions on whether to buy that nice property off the coast or get the car for that next license are only some of the things that will leave you scratching your head on which to do first. The games character models are also not great and while shouldn’t be a big focus, the fact that it does become a representation of yourself (or however you want to make them) along side other online players could have been worked on.

The game has also been experiencing some issues and while being addressed, it shipped with players not knowing if they should continue their play through in fear of errors. Overall it does feel overwhelming at times and while not all games should hold your hand, a good run down of everything one by one could have been a big help. The games story is also not very engaging as its only real means is to advance you in the game itself. With that said when the game is at its best it’s a hell of alot of fun. Racing others, getting together with a car crew, talking trash or just exploring the island feels great.

With a game as big as TDU 2 it’s easy to overlook some of its faults on execution. There is so much to do that it’ll have you busy for a long time. Other racing devs should take note that the starting point on features should start here and not to be light on them. For those that are into racers will feel very much at home but at the same time might find frustration on its downfalls. Others will have to take caution but keep an open mind on how different this game is to other racers.

Street Fighter IV on iOS Sales To Help Earthquake Relief Victims

0

If you own an iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch and call yourself a Street Fighter fan then this is for you. Even if you aren’t and you are just a charitable person then this is for you. For the next week Capcom is doing it’s fair share in helping the victims of Japan’s earthquake victims by donating the weeks revenue from sales to them. Capcom will also be dropping the Monster Hunter Frontier Online fee for people in the affected Tohoku region of Japan, my guess is to give them some kind of escape from reality. Also Capcom will be is donating Â¥100 million ($1.23 million) to the relief effort and reducing electrical power consumption in different areas.

Microsoft Recruiting For Next Gen Console War?

4

Let the games… Begin! Microsoft is at it again, the recent job listings for new wanted ads have a listing for a hardware architect, a hardware verification engineer, and a performance engineer for the Xbox Console Architecture Group. Now if this isn’t for a next generation console I’m not sure what it could be for. I’m guessing with all the hardware guru’s being hired, hopefully the next console to come out from Microsoft wont have over heating problems nor anymore RRoD’s. Whatever the job listing is for, let’s just hope it’s backwards compatible.

Expect MW3 To Look The Same

1

Infinity Ward’s Creative Strategist Robert Bowling, recently tweeted that creating a new engine for Modern Warfare 3 would be a counter productive effort. He also noted that creating an engine takes years to develop and perfect. Although the engine may be old, it doesn’t mean that the game will be. Since Infinity Ward will not need a new engine to run the game, that means more time can be spent on quality content to give gamers more variety. You can make a game look amazing, but a brick is still a brick no matter what number of bows and glitter is on it.

What do you guys think, would you prefer to wait for a game with a new engine with maybe not as much content in a couple of years, or a game with the same engine with more content possibly having a release window of 4th quarter of 2011 or even possibly 1st quarter of 2012?
