Deus Ex: Human Revolution Review
The year is 2027, Detroit has the front seat to the world of human augmentation. The revolution of humans and machine forged together to become a cybernetic enhanced human beings, I mean after all where else would machines be made in America, besides silicon valley? We can rebuild him… Make him better… Faster… Stronger… But as they say you just cant fix stupid… or can you? No, this isn’t the million dollar man, but from the looks of it, the augments and/or bionic limbs of Adam Jensen, seems like they’d cost a pretty damn penny (inflation my ass). In Deus Ex Human Revolution you play as head of security of Sarif Industries, Adam Jensen. Sarif Industries is one of the leading companies who’s cashed in on augmenting technology After a being almost completely blown up in the line of duty, Jensen undergoes augmentation (against his will) to save his life. The game picks back up six months after the explosion, with employees of research and development from the company either dead or still missing.
The game plays on the heart strings of being good or bad. You can either go in guns blazing and kill every one (including pedestrians), or play the stealth game and sneak past people, or just knock everyone out with tranquilizers and stun guns. Just try not to scream out “Don’t taze me bro!” every time you tag some one with the stun gun. Combat in the game is pretty straight forward, but the great great thing about Deus Ex is the choices you can make to get your objectives done. Head shotting all the bad guys in the game is great and all but the game doesn’t really show off it’s true colors until you sneak up on someone and cripple them with your augmented arms through an amazing cut scene. So playing stealthy or getting in close to your enemies has it’s benefits as the game does reward you with something cool. Gun play in the Deus Ex feels exactly how it should feel in any shooter, tight and precise, except for some clipping issues when you try to shoot over a ledge to people under you and distance of where a gun is effective.

Augmenting Jensen to fit your style of game play is balanced between combat, hacking, armor, and awareness. Unfortunately hacking will most likely be one of the first things players will want to max out since there’s so many security panels, computers, and doors in the game to hack. Although upgrading your hacking doesn’t exactly mean you’re guaranteed that you’ll be able to hack the terminals without any problems. Just know that hacking will most likely take up at least 25 to 30 percent of the game, and it’s always a challenge to get all the data locked up everywhere. Other than augmenting your hacking, people will get to choose a lot of different and fun augments like one for taking two people out at the same time. Which equals even more eye candy than before, at least two times more!

The game’s story line is pretty solid. Although it’s a little slow in the beginning, later on in the game the story really gets you to start wondering what the heck is actually going on, and make you question almost everyone you know. The entire game is either voiced or has subtitles, and the voice acting in the game is very well done no matter if it’s in Chinese or English. Deus Ex’s game play reminded me a lot of Metal Gear Solid, but just in first person. The stealth, the acrobatic flips, the choice or lethal or non-lethal combat, some weapons, mid game bosses, and even some of the levels. Don’t get me wrong, Deus Ex in itself is a great game even if it may have some similarities to the MGS series. After all the game does have some Easter eggs that spoofs on Final Fantasy, and makes some references to Blade Runner.
Although the game is great there were a few problems that I ran into, and one of the biggest was inventory. At the start you only get a limited amount of space to carry things, after upgrading the augment, space is still limited. The option to place things inside some type of storage unit was left out for some reason, so every time you have maxed out your carrying capacity, you either have to leave it behind or just drop it on the floor where it’ll just stay there for the entire game. Another qualm I had with the game is that you’re not able to travel between cities or areas after you’ve cleared them. So if you drop things off like a pistol you upgraded in the first part of the game to make space and travel to another city, then you wont be able to go back to the city to pick it up.

Sure the game has it’s problems but every game does. To be honest if you weigh out what the game has to offer compared to the minute problems, Deus Ex is still a fun game to play. The freedom to search entire levels, and complete missions however you like, and play in whichever style you like, makes the game fun. The depth of the story, and the mix of characters in the game keeps your attention, if that doesn’t then your concentration of staying stealthy or surviving gun fights will. The game has a good amount of challenge to it, and there’s tons of hard achievements to earn. If you’re hesitant of buying the game then let me just tell you that this is one game you don’t want to miss out on!
PS3 Exclusives Should be Played with Style
With new titles such as Metal Gear Solid HD (a release of older version of Metal Gear Solid with updated graphics, much like was done with the God of War series) and Uncharted 3, gamers may want to take a look at their boring PS3 dualshock 3 controllers. Press releases found on the Japanese Sony Computer Entertainment Inc (SCEI) website show details for two new controller themes that will be released in conjunction with the respective games. There’s a hi-res photo of the camouflage controller that can be found here. Reports from ShackNews hints at a November release which, conveniently enough, is when the HD collection is street dated.

UPDATED: Inversely, the second controller, is specifically being released with as an Uncharted special edition controller. SCEI Japan names the controller, “Uncharted – Atlantis sleep in the desert” (that being a loose translation). The same press release mentions a controller-software bundle that will be released with the game upon the release date. The highly anticipated Uncharted 3 is street dated for November 1, 2011.

Mario Meets Portal 2
Mario just straight up jacked the portal gun from Chell in Mari0. Haven’t heard of Mari0? Think, Mario meets Portal 2, minus GlaDOS and Wheatley; and yes there will be some tests. Still don’t get it? Well maybe you should check out the video posted below.
The brains of of Mari0 are two guys named Maurice Guégan, and Sašo Smolej from Stabourself. Guégan, and Smolej are already in the works of making Mari0, and actual full game. As soon as it’s completed we’ll keep you updated, but for now here’s some other info on the game.
- Yes, this is an actual game being developed – it is not a mod of any existing one. It’s coded with Löve (info at the bottom of the left menu) and will be released for free (so we don’t get stabbed by lawyers)
- All the source code of the game will be available after release
- The game will have mappacks, which will be downloadable from ingame. Users most likely won’t be able to publish maps directly, but will be able to send them in and we’ll add them for everyone to use.
- The primary maps will have a story and some portaly puzzles. What kind, well, we’ll figure that out as we go
- Level editor will be embedded in the game so you can edit the level while you play
- Original SMB levels and Lost levels will be included
- Simultaneous Multiplayer
Dead Island Launch Trailer
Dead Island is set to release in less then a week and I can’t help but feel a little gitty. It wasn’t to long ago that everyone was catching goosebumps from the awesome first trailer that was released. They have treated us with a launch trailer and the return of the piano music from the from that trailer. Hopefully this will hold those over waiting in anticipation.
Nintendo Ambassador Program is Live
Were you one of the many Nintendo 3DS customers who connected to Nintendo’s eShop by August 11 at 11:59pm? If you were, then you’re in luck because, whether you knew it or not, you are getting free games! Yes, free. After Nintendo failed to sell enough 3DS systems to their liking, they dropped the price $80 from $249.99 to $169.99 on August 12 (some stores such as Walmart cut prices early on August 9 allowing customers to connect to the eShop and receive the dropped price). Though difficult, some stores price matched the lower Walmart price and others decided to price adjust afterwards.
The Ambassador program allows 3DS owners, who fulfilled the guidelines, to receive 20 free games (available in two separate installments). The 10 included games are: The Legend of Zelda, Zelda II: The Adventure of Link, Super Mario Bros., Metroid, Donkey Kong Jr., Yoshi, Wrecking Crew, Ice Climber, Balloon Fight, NES Open Tournament Golf.
It seems there is some confusion as to how the games are downloaded. There are step-by-step instructions on how to download the games here.
Modern Warfare 3 Hardened Edition Contents Leaked!
The release of Modern Warfare 3 is a little over two short months away, and so far no one knows if a Prestige Edition will be available at launch. Although we do know that the Hardened Edition would be available, but no one knew what the contents would consist of, until now. Wired, has recently posted a leaked picture of an advertisement for MW3 for Europe with the listing of the contents and they’re listed as followed. (Note: US Version may not be the same)
- Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 game with unique disc art.
- One year of membership in Call of Duty Elite.
- “Founder status” on Elite with exclusive in-game emblem, player card, camouflage, clan XP boost and other exclusive benefits.
- SteelBook case.
- PlayStation Network exclusive: “Animated Timeline Theme.”
- Xbox 360 exclusive: “Special Ops Juggernaut Xbox Live Outfit.”
- Limited-edition “field journal” with more than 100 pages of “authentic military sketches, diagrams and written entries.”
As you can see there will be a whole bunch of goodness with each console version of the Hardened Edition except for the Wii (Sorry Wii fans).
Skyward Sword Bundle Comes In Gold
The new Zelda Skyward Sword will come bling-ed out if you choose to pre-order the bundle. The $70 bundle will come with a limited edition gold MotionPlus Wiimote with emblem on it, and 25th anniversary concert CD. If you choose to not own the Wiimote (although we really wouldn’t know why you wouldn’t), you can still purchase the game itself for $50 come November 20. Just be sure to be one of the first few to get the game because the 25th anniversary concert CD will only be released with initial printed copies of the game!
