Were you one of the many Nintendo 3DS customers who connected to Nintendo’s eShop by August 11 at 11:59pm? If you were, then you’re in luck because, whether you knew it or not, you are getting free games! Yes, free. After Nintendo failed to sell enough 3DS systems to their liking, they dropped the price $80 from $249.99 to $169.99 on August 12 (some stores such as Walmart cut prices early on August 9 allowing customers to connect to the eShop and receive the dropped price). Though difficult, some stores price matched the lower Walmart price and others decided to price adjust afterwards.
The Ambassador program allows 3DS owners, who fulfilled the guidelines, to receive 20 free games (available in two separate installments). The 10 included games are: The Legend of Zelda, Zelda II: The Adventure of Link, Super Mario Bros., Metroid, Donkey Kong Jr., Yoshi, Wrecking Crew, Ice Climber, Balloon Fight, NES Open Tournament Golf.
It seems there is some confusion as to how the games are downloaded. There are step-by-step instructions on how to download the games here.
