Insta360 makes mark on new Timesquare flagship store

Insta360 is putting down some serious roots in New York City, officially opening its first flagship store outside of Asia right in the middle of Times Square.

I had the chance to attend the opening on September 19, and it was immediately clear that there is a lot of excitement around what Insta360 is building. The line stretched around the block with people waiting to get inside, check out the latest cameras, and experience the brand in a much more hands-on way than you normally get from shopping online. For a company that has grown largely through creators, social media, and some pretty wild camera footage, having a permanent location in Times Square feels like a natural next step.

The new store is located at 1515 Broadway and acts as more than just a place to buy cameras. Visitors can test Insta360’s 360 cameras, action cameras, wearable devices, gimbals, and other imaging products while also getting support and seeing how the technology actually works in person. Insta360 says it has now shipped more than 10 million cameras worldwide, making the New York opening a pretty significant milestone in the company’s continued expansion.

There were also plenty of fun things happening throughout the opening. One of the more interesting demos was an early look at the Insta360 X6’s new 3D Gaussian Splatting feature, which can take captured footage and turn it into immersive 3D environments. It’s the kind of feature that makes a lot more sense when you actually see it working rather than just reading a list of specs.

Guests could also take part in an interactive 360-degree photo experience that transformed captured images into personalized newspaper-style prints. Outside the store, Insta360 took things into the streets with its “Ride Bold” NYC event, sending around 100 riders from Times Square through locations including Central Park and DUMBO while capturing the city along the way. The official opening also included Insta360 co-founder and VP of Marketing Max Richter, filmmaker Casey Neistat, along with creators Jesse Wellens and Jeana Smith interacting with fans and demonstrating products.

What stood out most to me, though, was simply seeing how many people showed up. Times Square is already one of the busiest retail locations in the world, but having a huge crowd specifically waiting to check out cameras and creator technology says a lot about where Insta360 sits today compared to just a few years ago.

The company has become a familiar name across action cameras, 360 video, travel content, and creator gear, and this store gives people a place to actually experiment with those products before deciding what fits into their setup. That hands-on experience is especially useful with something like a 360 camera, where the possibilities are sometimes difficult to understand until you start moving around with one.

As someone who attended their Grand Central 8K camera event sometime back and after seeing the turnout and getting some time with the products and experiences inside, the Times Square flagship feels like a strong location for Insta360. Between tourists, creators, photographers, filmmakers, and plenty of people simply walking through the area every day, there probably aren’t many better places to introduce someone to what these cameras can do.

For Insta360, the store is another sign that the brand is moving well beyond being something you primarily discover through viral videos online. Now it has a major physical presence right in the heart of New York City, and judging by the crowd on opening day, plenty of people were ready to check it out.
