Microsoft held in event yesterday to unveil their latest console to the Xbox family, Xbox One. Their’s still a lot more to learn about it much like the PS4 conference held back in February. Unlike Sony however they came right out with what the console, controller and new Kinect look like at yesterdays conference itself. Sporting an 8 GB DDR3 of onboard memory and a 500 GB HDD as well as cloud storage to name a few things in the console. New design and rumble features in the controller. Even the Kinect camera has 250,000-pixel infrared depth sensor and 1080p camera @ 30 fps , with better depth perception and can recognize up to six skeletons not just two, also capable of capturing your heartbeat. This is only naming a few things and the rest of the hardware specs can be found here. Check out below of screens of the sleek new Xbox One and all its glory.

Heavy Gear Assault to be first next generation mech game

Next generation is all the talk with console unveilings and PC offerings. None of which are actually available at this moment and will only start rolling itself out no sooner then 6 months. Even with that what we’re most likely going to receive are bumped up ports from current generation games. Stompy Bot is making sure that the first next generation mech game goes all out Heavy Gear Assualt. “When we announced Heavy Gear Assault, we really had no idea what aspects would generate the most interest. Having a private crowdfunding campaign before launching a Kickstarter allowed us to really get the feedback we needed to make sure we succeed,” said James Taylor, President of Stompy Bot Productions.

Their upcoming PC mecha game is being developed on Unreal Engine 4 and is seeking support on none other then Kickstarter to raise its funds. They are looking to raise an addition $800,000 after already successfully raising $118,000 through a private crowdfunding efforts. Mektek Studios which are the developers of the game say it will feature next generation destructible environments, focus on creating an amalgamation of destructibility and interactivity. The last part seems to be of full use here as mechs that have been dismembered can actually have their parts picked up to arm yourself with.

The game has some time to go before it meets its goal, let alone releasing the game. They do however promise a beta which will take place before it. Support their Kickstarter here and for more detail visit: here.

Xbox One to destroy Tivo?

Xbox One unveiled itself yesterday and while we still have a lot to learn about the system they did make one thing clear, they want to take over your living room. A big portion of that is the channels and tv you watch itself which they seem to have covered with Xbox One Live TV. This feature enables you to navigate and watch live TV from your cable/satellite or set-top box from the Xbox One. The console will sport a 500gb hard drive and have DVR functions for use with your shows and games. It would sound like this spells trouble by other providers of this tech like Tivo?

Tivo’s main function is that it is a DVR and (digital Video Recorder) provides an on-screen guide of scheduled broadcast programming which can be recorded for later playback. Over the years the amount of shows which can be recorded, features like apps and simultaneous recordings have been greatly increased. While cable and satellite set-top boxes combat these efforts, Tivo remains the preferred DVR of any in the market. This could soon change however with the Xbox One revealing its plans in that category.

xbox-one-live-tv
Here is a hypothetical clear breakdown scenario of those that own a Tivo, or are looking into one might need to pump the breaks until the Xbox One arrives.

Tivo breakdown

  • TiVo Premiere records 2 shows, has a 500gb hard drive and retails for $149
  • TiVo Premiere 4 records 4 shows, has a 500gb hard drive and retails for $249
  • TiVo Premiere XL44 records 4 shows, has a 2tb hard drive, THX certified sound and retails for $399
  • Tivo has a monthly subscription of $14.99 or a lifetime subscription for $500

Tivo pricing after 2 years of service

  • TiVo Premiere after 2 year service comes out to $510
  • TiVo Premiere after 2 year service comes out to $610
  • TiVo Premiere XL4 after 2 year service comes out to $760

Now not 100% confirmed but with a suggest estimated price for the Xbox One being $500 at retailer then you get a different breakdown which is below.

Xbox One breakdown

  • Xbox One records X shows
  • Has 500 gb hard drive
  • Is expandable by memory
  • Will be software upgradable
  • Suggested retailer price at $500

You can already see what you would be saving, not to mention all the other functionality that would include or matches a Tivo box already. Apps, save favorite programing and setting DVR. While other features have not been discussed not only do we think they’re imminent but they will be greatly expanded by Xbox One. Kinect voice, gesture control functions, simultaneous recording and streaming tv which Tivo has an additional box that needs to be purchased of $129.99 that will possibly be a Xbox Smart Glass function. Not to mention the glimpse of interactivity between programming like integrating Fantasy leagues while watching sports which they showed off at the event.

While many have not thought of this or have not seen this as a concern to replace their Tivo, we should receive some hard answers as to the capabilities of the Xbox One Live TV features. It may not match what you currently have going but as Xbox 360 has evolved into the console it is today don’t think for a second that the Xbox One won’t do the same.

Halo TV is a real thing… well soon to be at least.

What does Steven Spielberg, Master Chief, and TV’s have in common? If I wasn’t blatant enough, it’s a TV show. Think Halo 4 Forward Unto Dawn, but a live-action series with real people and real warthogs. Never have I wanted to be a Spartan ever more in my life than I have today. So far no announcement of when it will be airing, nor when the pilot episode will hit, but sure enough when we find out you’ll find out.
