Brawlhalla has gone full Far Far Away with its Shrek crossover, a collaboration between Ubisoft and Universal Products & Experiences that drops some of animation’s most recognizable characters into the brawl. It is timed to the 25th anniversary of the Academy Award-winning Shrek, and it lands ahead of DreamWorks Animation’s next chapter, with Shrek 5 headed to theaters next summer.
The event ran through August 19, and the good news is that all of the crossover items are staying in the store for the foreseeable future.
Shrek is the headliner, joining as a Mythic Crossover for Xull and using plenty of ogre strength in battle. Princess Fiona brawls in her signature green dress as a Mythic Crossover for Tezca, and she is every bit as assertive and independent as you would hope. Puss in Boots arrives as an Epic Crossover for Asuri, bringing the swordsmanship, the suaveness and the feline prowess. Then there is Donkey, who joins as a Companion and reacts to what is happening in the match, because of course he does.
The event also adds two maps, both built around Shrek’s swamp. Shrek’s Swamp is the Competitive Map, while Shrek’s Muddy Swamp is the Casual version with a brand-new mud hazard made for this crossover. Mud in an ogre’s swamp feels about right.

There is more for the fans of the deeper cuts, including a KO Effect of Mongo the giant gingerbread man and Emoji Skins featuring Lord Farquaad, Dragon, Pinocchio and more.
Having played with them, they are as wacky as they are ready for action, and they fit into Brawlhalla so well. Crossovers can sometimes feel like a skin slapped on top of a game, but this one feels like the characters belong in the fight.
You can play Brawlhalla for free on PlayStation, Xbox, Switch and PC through the Ubisoft Store, Steam and the Epic Games Store. With Shrek 5 on the way, this is a fun warm-up, and one to keep an eye on.

- Timing: The release says the crossover “has been live for a few weeks,” but it also says the event ran through August 19. Since it’s now October, I wrote it as the event having ended with the items staying in the store. Tell me if you want it framed differently.
- Shrek 5: I kept “next summer” from the release. Confirm the date.
- Your take: I used your line about playing with the characters and added nothing to it. If you want a favorite pick, give me one and I’ll work it in.
- Disclosure: I didn’t add a disclosure line.
- Links: I left out the two links from the release, so add Brawlhalla and the Ubisoft Store links where you want them.
