I recently had the opportunity to spend some time with EssilorLuxottica for a closer look at where the company is taking vision care next, from new consumer eyewear to some genuinely interesting MedTech advancements. The event had a fun mix of hands-on experiences too, including popsicle station, info on all the eyewear, and plenty of time to explore the technology up close.
One of the more insightful parts of the evening was the panel with mom Hannah Bronfman alongside EssilorLuxottica’s Head of Medical Affairs, Dr. Monica Jong. They discussed myopia, why proactive eye care matters, and Bronfman’s own experience navigating vision care for herself. What really stuck with me was the conversation around how much of a difference can be made when vision issues are identified early, especially with children.
That tied directly into an early look at Essilor Stellest lenses, which are designed specifically to help slow the progression of myopia in children. Essilor says Stellest uses its H.A.L.T. technology, combining a clear central zone with a surrounding pattern of lenslets designed to create a signal that helps slow eye elongation while still correcting vision. It was interesting hearing people talk about how different their own experiences with vision might have been if technology like this had been available when they were younger.
I also got a closer look at some of EssilorLuxottica’s clinical technology, including a surprisingly compact eye examination system. Seeing how much equipment could be condensed into a smaller footprint made the practical benefit pretty obvious. For an eye doctor, that could mean saving valuable office space while potentially making parts of the examination process faster and easier for patients.
I walked away from the event with a lot more information than I expected, but also a better understanding of where vision care is heading. We usually think about eyewear as something that corrects a problem after we notice it, but there is clearly a much bigger push toward early detection, prevention, and technology that can support eye health over time. Stellest in particular is something I’ll be keeping an eye on as EssilorLuxottica continues pushing further into that space.
