XCOM Release Date Announced

XCOM was one of the classic turn based computer games back in the day. 2K Games is relaunching the title as a first person shooter for the Xbox 360, Playstation 3, and PC next year for March 6, 2012. I know it seems like its a far ways off but before you know it March will be creeping up.

XCOM tells a tale about humanity’s struggle against an unknown enemy that puts players directly into the shoes of an FBI agent tasked with identifying and eliminating the growing threat. True to the roots of the franchise, players will be placed in charge of overcoming high-stake odds through risky strategic gambits coupled with heart-stopping combat experiences that pit human ingenuity – and frailty – against a foe beyond comprehension. By setting the game in a first-person perspective, players will be able to feel the tension and fear that comes with combating a faceless enemy that is violently probing and plotting its way into our world.

Uncharted 3 Collector’s Edition

0

If you haven’t heard yet then let me be the one who fills you in. Uncharted 3: Drakes Deception will be offering up a collector’s edition filled with some goodies you can really show off to your friends, literally! Of course you get the game that will be wrapped up in steel case, but with it you’ll get a replica of Nathan’s belt buckle, and ring with necklace. Along with the replicas, you’ll get a small statue of Nathan, and have everything in a “treasure chest” box. The pricing for the collector’s edition and all the goodies that go with it is set at $99.99, and also if you pre-order from certain stores you’ll receive bonus content.

Best Buy offers a “Regeneration Booster” that will regenerate health when injured faster than usual; Amazon gives players a “Carpet Bomb Kickback” that allows players to deploy three grenades at once; and a clip size augmentation for the Para 9 or G-MAL weapons. GameStop’s offering is the “Creepy Crawler Kickback,” which turns you into a swarm of deadly creatures for a limited time, and Wal-Mart gives players a laser sighted AK-47. Other “participating retailers” provide a PSN avatar and a static theme.

Preview: Call of Duty Elite

There’s been a lot of speculation of what Call of Duty: Elite was and what it would be. We’ll some information was just released about the beginning stages of what Elite will be. Think of Elite as your online portal that combines Facebook with in-depth detail of stat tracking and mix in a little sliver of YouTube. Elite will give players the option to look deeper into their play style with the stat trackers that’ll be available online and on mobile devices, but that’s just the surface.

Elite want’s to join players from all consoles and across the world into one big community site. Starting with Black Ops, Elite plans on joining all future Call of Duty games (including Modern Warefare 3) onto the Elite service. To have players come together, the Elite service will offer the ability to create groups, and find players that have the similar play style and interests that you prefer. Including things not related to FPS games like, liking dogs or cats, or even enjoying certain types of foods. Along with all the community oriented options, Elite will offer players the ability to upload game clips directly to YouTube.

Elite will offer players who put their time and effort into the Call of Duty universe rewards. So far there hasn’t been any mentions or guaranteed paid service or subscription service for Elite yet, but this option may be something that Elite will add to the site. So far Elite has been one of the closest things in North America that is dedicated to it’s players, and will give it’s players and organized way to connect and expand the gaming community outside of Facebook and gaming forums. For some reason or another I, myself am kinda excited about Elite subscription or not.

The addition of D2D will increase GameFly’s library of games to over 3000 PC and Mac games. Currently there has been no planned changes to either service, but there will be new options planned while everything is sorted out in the future. We all know that PC games have been lacking fromthe GameFly service, and with the acquisition of Direct2Drive, gamers will eventually have access to PC and Mac games to rent on the fly. Good looks GameFly, way to look out for the non console gamers, who said PC gaming was dead?

Free-To-Play Ghost Recon

0

Ubisoft has announced that a free-to-play Ghost Recon is on it’s way out this summer. Ubisoft seems to want to jump on the bandwagon that EA’s Battlefield play4free model, which isn’t a bad thing of course! For PC gamers who are on a budget, free to play with in game market place is the most ideal way for them to game. Ghost Recon Online will be a full featured third person tactical shooter with players being able to use cover in the game. The in the game store will have “premium items” to enhance their abilities on the battlefield, so having goofy hats and costumes might not be in the game… yet. Currently there’s a signup for the beta at their website, and if you aren’t much of a beta player keep your eyes peeled because Ubisoft expects GRO to be fully operational by the end of the year.

Black Ops Bundle Available May 31st

0

Sony has announced today that a 160GB PS3 bundled with Black Ops and the First Strike map pack DLC will be available on May 31. Although so much has been going on with Sony and it’s network in the last month and a half, it seems that Sony is trying to get back it’s gamers that it may have lost through out the entire hacking debacle. If you weren’t aware, many gamers traded in their PS3 along with their copies of Black Ops during the outage, that’s some pretty serious business if you’re a CoD player. Guess Sony is asking for a second chance, and did I mention that the bundle is only $299.99? Basically you’re getting Black Ops and a map pack for free!
