Google has officially lifted the curtain on the highly anticipated Pixel 9 series, including the Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, and Pixel 9 Pro XL. These devices are set to continue Google’s legacy of combining cutting-edge hardware with innovative software, offering a premium smartphone experience in every aspect. The reveal at the recent event has left tech enthusiasts buzzing, especially with the inclusion of some surprising features and improvements.
The Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro XL are essentially the same powerhouse devices, differentiated primarily by their sizes and a few size-related specs. Both models are equipped with the new Tensor G4 processor, 16GB of RAM, and storage options ranging from 128GB to a massive 1TB. The Pixel 9 Pro sports a 6.3″ OLED display, while the Pixel 9 Pro XL features a larger 6.8″ OLED display. Both screens are LTPO panels, supporting refresh rates from 1-120Hz with peak brightness up to 3000 nits, ensuring vibrant and fluid visuals.
The camera systems on the Pixel 9 Pro and Pro XL are identical, featuring a 42MP selfie camera and a versatile 3-camera setup on the rear, including wide, ultra-wide, and telephoto lenses. The Pro XL model edges out its smaller sibling with a slightly larger battery (5060mAh vs. 4700mAh) and faster charging capabilities (37W vs. 27W). However, the Pixel 9 Pro still packs a punch, making it an excellent choice for those who prefer a more compact device without sacrificing performance.

The standard Pixel 9, while lacking the “Pro” moniker, is no slouch. It features the same Tensor G4 processor, 12GB of RAM, and a 6.3″ OLED display with a 60-120Hz refresh rate. The camera system includes a 50MP main sensor and a 48MP ultra-wide lens, although it misses out on the telephoto lens and advanced selfie camera found in the Pro models. Starting at $799, the Pixel 9 offers incredible value, providing a premium experience at a more accessible price point.
Google has also packed the Pixel 9 series with innovative software features. All models come with Android 14 out of the box, complete with seven years of OS, security, and Pixel Drop updates. New features like Pixel Screenshots, which leverage AI to organize and retrieve information from your screenshots, and the “Add Me” photo feature, which seamlessly adds you into group photos, highlight Google’s commitment to enhancing user experience through AI.

A standout addition to the Pixel line is the introduction of Satellite SOS, allowing users to connect to emergency services via satellite when cellular coverage is unavailable. This feature, along with the powerful combination of hardware and software, makes the Pixel 9 series a robust choice for both everyday use and emergency situations.
The Pixel 9 Pro starts at $999, with the Pro XL starting at $1,099. Both are available in Obsidian, Porcelain, Hazel, and Rose Quartz, with pre-orders for the XL model already open, shipping by August 22. The Pixel 9 is priced at $799 and comes in Obsidian, Porcelain, Wintergreen, and Peony. It is also available for pre-order, with shipments beginning on August 22. Stay tuned for more updates as the Pixel 9 series continues to make waves in the smartphone market.
