Steam’s broader living room vision is Steam OS

As the first of three announcements that Valve will make this week they’ve gone ahead and touched upon what will be a new operating system coming from Steam. This will essentially take all the data from your powered Steam app on the PC or Mac and stream the content for use on your TV with a device that can power it.

“As we’ve been working on bringing Steam to the living room, we’ve come to the conclusion that the
environment best suited to delivering value to customers is an operating system built around Steam itself.
SteamOS combines the rock-solid architecture of Linux with a gaming experience built for the big screen.
It will be available soon as a free stand-alone operating system for living room machines.” Valve writes.

Their will also be new features as well coming like music streaming, video and the earlier announced family sharing. We’ll know more for sure when it becomes available.
