The development of the successor to Gears of War 2 would be awesome to hear at TGS ’09. However, Epic made a valid point how to work on the sequel on this generation of consoles would be best on the next generation console utilizing the Unreal Engine 4 still in development (how could they ever top the present generation?). Mike Capps, President of Epic Game Studios said while addressing an audience at this week’s Tokyo Game Show in a Q&A session, “If their were a next Gears of War, that will be for the next console generation, whenever that is. If someone knows, please tell me! That’s about four or five years away, I think.” To add to this, he also mentioned that the company is working on the Unreal Engine 4 for seven years, and that it would be fully compliant with the next generation of consoles. Cliff Blesszinki, Design Director of Epic Games, stated that Gears of War 3 will have RPG elements. Hears to hoping you can shoot ice through the Lancer to freeze and then old-fashion shotgun blast to shatter.

UPDATE: It has been stated that Epic’s Michael Capps has clarified , and wasn’t sure if the next Gears of War would be for current generation or not. He states “If we ship a game in the next few years, it’ll be Unreal Engine 3,” he said, “If we ship a game on next [generation] consoles, it will likely be Unreal Engine 4.” Heres hoping which ever the plan is, they will make vast improvements to the top seller that is Gears of War 2.
It will come out for the xbox 360, as long as microsoft will throw pools of money their way, they wil def make the next one soon.
I bet that it will come out by no later than end of 2010 or no later than 2011 because there is only so much that Epic can do to Gears 2. They are loosing players online also because of the vast change from Gears 1 and eventually people will get tired if Gears 2. I don’t think it really matters what generation console it comes out on, it still will look great.
