Child of Eden Review

0

It’s kind of hard to review a game that is really short yet intensely immersive. The colors and overall style of play can keep anyone in a trance for hours. Child of Eden is one of those games that can keep an entire room full of people entertained but is no more then one player at a time. Tetsuya Mizuguchi set himself up to make a spiritual successor to Rez and he does but before you know it the game ends.

Child of Eden essentially is about the child of the evolutionary state of the internet named Eden. Corrupt data has captured her and you need to save her before it’s to late. The story itself doesn’t make much sense as you play along but you quickly realize while playing that it doesn’t really matter. The game hooks you from the minute you start up the first level.

It’s an on-rails first person shooter which gives you the ability to either lock-on to multiple enemies or rapid fire. Each time you fire it goes along with the trance/techno music in the game and it gets addicting fast. Each stage shapes and manifests itself into something different from start to finish. Never getting repetitive along its first play through. As you progress through the stages the game gets significantly harder and faster. Prepare to die a number of times if your timing is not on point when getting through the later stages. They’ve even made it a note to only unlock the final stages when you get a certain amount of stars within each one. I do want to note that we mainly played the game with Kinect and although it can be played with a controller the experience is just not the same without the Kinect.

The visual style of the game resembles Rez closely but is in itself is very engaging. It also knew when to let me appreciate the surroundings areas within the game which has some great detail in it. Child of Eden’s biggest downfall is its length. With less then a handful of stages, the game feels like it ends right when it begins. That’s not to say there aren’t unlockables but this almost feels like a teaser for something grand in the works.

Child of Eden is an experience like no other. From the minute you play you won’t be able to put it down. The game can be beaten in a few hours but unlockables, leaderboards and a challenge mode keep the game from ending entirely. While the game is not exclusive to the Kinect censor it is probably the definitive experience to play with it. Hopefully more is in the pipeline for Child of Eden as I’m all but done with exploring this world.

DotA 2 Minimum System Requirements Revealed!

0

Defense of the Ancients or DotA is a game that has been played by many. Since the announcement of it’s sequel many have wondered how will it look, and how will it play compared to the first game? Well we still haven’t heard much from game play, but as for requirements you’ll need in order to play it, we got some good news!

DotA 2 Minimum System Requirements:

  • OS: Windows® 7 / Vista / Vista64 / XP
  • Processor: Pentium 4 3.0GHz
  • Memory: 1 GB for XP / 2GB for Vista
  • Graphics: DirectX 9 compatible video card with 128 MB, Shader model 2.0. ATI X800, NVidia 6600 or better
  • Hard Drive: At least 2.5 GB of free space
  • Sound: DirectX 9.0c compatible sound card

DotA 2 Recommended System Requirements:

  • OS: Windows® 7 / Vista / Vista64 / XP
  • Processor: Intel core 2 duo 2.4GHz
  • Memory: 1 GB for XP / 2GB for Vista
  • Graphics: DirectX 9 compatible video card with Shader model 3.0. NVidia 7600, ATI X1600 or better
  • Hard Drive: At least 2.5 GB of free space
  • Sound: DirectX 9.0c compatible sound card
  • As it seems the minimum system requirements are pretty low. It seems that with the foundation of Warcraft 2 and WoW, Valve is keeping in mind that their target audience may or may not have hulking computers to play on. Keeping the requirements low will give frugal gamers a chance to play DotA 2 on their older systems. The game has been said it will be running on Valve’s Source engine, and to make sure you can run the game on your computer, just see if you can run Alien Swarm since DotA 2 will be running the same engine.

Not One, Not Two, But Three…

    NBA 2k12

For the past couple of months, there has been continued debate on who this mystery character was on the generic box cover for NBA 2K12. Names such as LeBron James, Dwayne Wade, Dirk Nowitzki and Derrick Rose were all being thrown around. The crossover looked similar to this particular Derrick Rose crossover, so the debate heightened in intensity and it seemed as though Rose would be the sure-fire winner for the game’s box cover. An MVP on the cover? Yes, please! Well, 2K Sports announced a couple of days ago who the winner (read: winners) were for this year’s cover. Sorry Rose maybe next year. That’s right, they chose more than one. In fact, they chose three. 2K selected Larry Bird, Earvin “Magic” Johnson, and, for the second year in a row, Michael Jordan.
Each player will appear on a separate game cover, to which there are no plans for individual pre-orders. One thing that may confuse some is Jordan’s jersey. It looks, at a glance, that his number begins with a three. It in fact, is the way his jersey is positioned. When a second look is given to the hi-res image of the cover, it can be seen that the jersey is somewhat folded and the two is there.
On the other side of things, it seems as though EA Sports has yet to announce a basketball game in the works, pretty much solidifying 2K as the top basketball game on consoles. For a hi-res look at the new covers, please click below.

    Gunstringer Out In September!

    0

Twisted Pixel has announced Gunstringer, the marionette, western gunslinger, that’s controlled with the Kinect game will be hitting stores and not XBLA on September 13! The $40 game will hit store shelves in North America, Australia, New Zealand and Asia on September 13, and September 16 in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. Gunstringer will be bundled together with Fruit Ninja, another Kinect game valued at $10. That’s two games for the price of one (in some way, shape, or form)! But wait there’s more! Along with the two games, gamers will also get DLC entitled “The Wavy Tube Man Chronicles” in which you battle “the time-traveling son of Wavy Tube Man.”
Pre-orders for the game from certain stores will get you two tokens for avatar props from the game!

    Freddy’s Back!

Freddy Krueger is back, and this time in video game form. The fourth DLC for Mortal Kombat will include Mr. Nightmare on Elm street himself. For $4.99 or 400 MP’s, or free for you season pass holders you can download Freddy next month on August 9th. All that’s left to wonder is when Jason Voorhees will show up with his big ass machete and hockey mask.

R2D2 Xbox 360 and White Kinect Bundle Announced at Comic Con!

    0

To pay homage to Star Wars Microsoft will be bundling R2D2 with Kinect! Well not the actually R2D2 (wish it was the actual though), a Xbox 360 modeled after the little robot that could. The console will have R2’s sounds and look, along with a white version of the Kinect, Star Wars Kinect, Kinect Adventures, and a 320 gig hard drive. Also what would R2 be without his side kick C3P0? The controller that comes with the bundle will be modeled after the worry wart of a robot, can you say bling bling? The bundle will be on sale in the fall but pre-orders should be expected to start today. Pre-orders for the bundle will be priced at $449, force powers and light saber not included.

Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 Announced

There’s been a lot of speculation whether Marvel vs Capcom 3 was going to get some new additions to their list of fighters and it seems that it’s actually true! Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 has a window of being released in November with a bunch of different characters, a different mode, new stages, and fully rebalanced. There’s been a lot of digging around for who the new characters will be, and so far we are guaranteed that Ghost Rider, Firebrand, Strider, and Hawk Eye are in on the new roster. Some other characters that may be in the game will be Vergil, Frank West, Phoenix Wright, Nemesis, Dr. Strange, Nova, Rocket Raccoon, and Iron Fist. Remember the roster may change, but if it does, we’ll keep you posted.

The new mode added to the game will be spectator mode, where players can actually watch the battle between players. Previous MvC3 the Versus mode only gave player cards of each character being used and the life bars of each. Lastly some information on pre-order goodies. The New Age of Heroes Costume Pack will come with the first Strider costume, Dr. Doom Doomwar, Classic X-men Sentinel, and Mechanical Akuma for people who pre-order the game. When pictures become available we’ll be sure to update everyone of what they look like, but just hearing “Mechanical Akuma” you can’t not think a Terminator type of Akuma with the red cybernetic eye! Pricing has not yet been placed on the game, but like Street Fighter IV and Super Street Fighter IV, pricing may not be as high.
