New York Comic Con 2025 Showed Comics Are Still the Main Event

New York Comic Con 2025 wrapped up another massive weekend at the Javits Center, and while NYCC has grown into a full pop culture takeover with movies, TV, gaming, anime, collectibles and cosplay all fighting for attention, this year made one thing pretty clear: comics still know how to own the room.

Across the show floor and panels, publishers came in ready. Not just with small teases or safe announcements, but with the kind of reveals that had fans talking well after the weekend was over. It felt like a year where the comic side of NYCC wanted to remind everyone why this convention matters in the first place. The characters, the creators, the worlds and the future of storytelling were all front and center.

DC arguably made the biggest statement of the weekend. The publisher came into NYCC with a stacked lineup of news, but what really gave them the edge was the messaging behind it. Jim Lee speaking out against the use of AI in art and storytelling became one of those moments that felt bigger than a panel soundbite. In an industry built on creators, style, craft and imagination, hearing that commitment land in front of fans and retailers hit differently. It was one of those moments where the room knew exactly why it mattered.

Marvel was right there swinging too. This is still New York, and Marvel knows exactly how important NYCC is to its comic fanbase. Between Spider-Man, Venom, Carnage and the upcoming Death Spiral storyline, there was a lot for web-heads and symbiote fans to latch onto. Queen In Black also gave fans something to start watching closely as Marvel builds toward its Summer 2026 plans.

The X-Men side of things had a strong presence as well, with new titles and post-event fallout setting up the next chapter for mutant stories. Storm: Earth’s Mightiest Mutant, Inglorious X-Force and Rogue were among the books getting attention, and the Ultimate Universe news added another layer of conversation with its current run heading toward an April 2026 endpoint.

One of Marvel’s biggest comic announcements was Joshua Williamson returning to Marvel to write Iron Man with Carmen Carnero on art. That is the kind of creative team news that gets comic readers instantly curious, especially when Iron Man feels like a character that can really benefit from a fresh creative direction.

Marvel also had one of the most New York moments of the whole convention with its Mass Appeal collaboration around Legend Has It. Bringing comics and hip-hop together with names like Nas, Slick Rick, De La Soul, Ghostface, Raekwon and DJ Premier made that panel feel less like a standard announcement and more like a cultural moment. For NYCC, in New York, that one just made sense.

Skybound also had a strong weekend by tapping into multiple fanbases at once. Invincible continues to be a major pillar for the company, and the Invincible Vs. game gave fans something that feels like it could hit especially hard with fighting game fans. The comparison to a Marvel vs. Capcom-style energy makes sense, but with Invincible’s world and personality giving it its own lane.

What stood out most from NYCC 2025 was how much of the conversation came back to creators and trust. Fans want big announcements, of course. They want the next Batman book, the next X-Men direction, the next Spider-Man event and the next surprise crossover. But they also want to feel like the people making these books still care about the art form.

NYCC 2025 had all the usual spectacle, but the comic side came away feeling especially strong. DC set the pace, Marvel brought the heavy hitters, Skybound kept expanding its universe, BOOM! delivered a crossover fans did not see coming, and VeeFriends showed there is still room for newer fandoms to make noise.

For a convention that keeps growing into every corner of pop culture, this year was a reminder that comics are not just part of NYCC. They are still one of the biggest reasons the room gets loud.
