Limbo Hands On Impressions

Out of all the games on the PAX East floor few games got the attention that Limbo got, and for good reason, just one look at Limbo and you know instantly that its not like any other game. Limbo is a 2D puzzle sidescroller set in a haunting world where everything seems like a shadow, making the title of the game very apprioriate. With limited visuals and no hints on how to solve the puzzles, Limbo gives players a true sense of loneliness as they explore the desolate world.
Players are given control of a nameless boy on an unknown mission, all that the player has to do is traverse through the stages safely, and here is the real challenge of Limbo. The game is full of traps like pits, and deep pools of water, on top of the traps there are also several enemies including giant spiders, and what seems to be older boys who are out to get the hero. The game gives you no weapons and with only the ability to jump and grab objects players definitely need be careful as they move through out the game.

Probably the most interesting thing about Limbo is how little is known about it, the developers have given no details on the story, who the boy is, what his goal is or even where he is. This aura of mystery around the story adds even more to the experience and is surely what the developer is trying to do. Limbo is scheduled to be released on XBLA but doesn’t have a release date yet.
