Alan Wake: The Writer Review

The newest DLC for Alan Wake picks up where the previous one left off. The Writer attempts to answer a few more of the questions that were left open at the end of the original game, and it also adds a few more interesting scenarios. The latest DLC also wraps up the mini story that was start in the previous DLC.

The Writer stays very close to the look and feel of the main game so if the story of Alan Wake had you hooked then the newest episode will be worth while to you. However to those who aren’t necessarily interested in Alan Wake might find that the price is a little too much, especially considering that the DLC is about two hours long.

Another thing to point out for those considering The Writer is that there is little added the combat and gameplay, this worked fine in the main game but after the first DLC the second one could have used a little more extra to keep players interested. While The Signal was very combat focused The Writer is more about the story and has a significant amount more of dialogue. One of the more interesting parts of The Writer is that it revisits several of the locations that players went through in the original which serves as a reminder to main story and how interesting it was.

Overall there isn’t a lot added to The Writer that wasn’t already in the previous DLC, it is purely meant for fans of Alan Wake who want to continue his story and since the focus of this DLC is on the story there is little reason to play it if you don’t want to see what happens to Alan Wake. However if you are a fan of the original and downloaded the previous DLC then The Writer is recommended to see what happens to Alan Wake.
