Saints Row IV Enter the Dominatrix DLC review

It’s not often that a company has an idea for something as small as a dlc expansion can turn into something as big as a full game, as the case for Saints Row IV. While not entirely their idea, their publisher at the time THQ had decided it was best for Volition to release said expansion as the next big installment of the series. What you get was Zin alien invasion, a simulated Steelport and super powers that go above and beyond. We’re not sure what exactly was a direct translation but the Enter the Dominatrix has a great strength about it by keeping up with the humor that was throughout the game and even trying something completely new.

The whole DLC plays out as behind the scenes to Saints Row IV and in this alternate take the Zinyak and legions trap the Saints in a virtual world with a crazy AI program known as the Dominatrix. Everything you need to know about her is already in the name. She will try and stop you with her evil sex-workers and bondage henchmen. Yes their is some weird sex objects and subtext but will be your job to stop the program from taking over… no matter what’s going on.

Those that are familiar with Saints Row the Third will recognize characters in this that (as far as the story is concerned) didn’t make the cut for IV. Like much of Saints Row from 3-4 they start you off in a pretty action packed sequence but the design plays out with commentary from the characters and even going as far as making some scenes seem like post production work and fillers.

While the DLC places itself in the game as a series of missions that brings you to the world that the Dominatrix is currently taking over, it doesn’t intrude on anything else going on. Our biggest complaints is it doesn’t really add to the overall experience to the game. Some new weapons are used but we wish you’d receive a new super power to match. It also make you believe your going on this giant adventure and in reality it’s a pretty short dlc expansion clocking in at a little over an 1 hour.

It’s a decent dlc expansion for the money and flows quite well with the rest of the game. We wish their was more content to go around but we loved the behind the scenes character commentary work Volition has done with this and easily recommend anyone giving this a go, especially for the surprising but not really twist at the end.
