Gamescom 2025: Resident Evil – Requiem Officially Announced

Resident Evil Requiem, officially announced during Gamescom 2025, is the ninth entry in the mainline series and is already shaping up to be one of the most ambitious horror experiences Capcom has ever crafted. If Resident Evil 7 was the resurrection of the franchise, Requiem feels like an evolution, a bold step forward for survival horror.

One of the biggest technical leaps comes with NVIDIA’s DLSS 4 with Frame Generation, fully integrated into the PC version. This isn’t just about higher frame rates, it’s about immersion. With advanced path-traced lighting, ray-traced shadows, and global illumination, every flicker of a lighter in the dark, every distorted reflection, and every shadow stretching across the walls becomes part of the nightmare.

Capcom’s RE Engine has been leading the industry in horror visuals for years, but pairing it with DLSS gives Requiem a cinematic edge unlike anything before it. On console, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S will still deliver the atmospheric punch, but PC players are going to experience survival horror at its sharpest and most terrifying.

The announcement also dropped one of the most exciting lore connections in years. The new protagonist, Grace Ashcroft, is revealed to be the daughter of Alyssa Ashcroft, the investigative reporter from Resident Evil Outbreak. Her mother’s brutal murder, showcased in the reveal trailer, sets the stage for Grace’s investigation and personal battle against the horrors that follow.

This connection ties Requiem directly into a piece of Resident Evil history that many fans thought was left behind. It’s Capcom’s way of acknowledging the past while pushing the story forward, deepening the legacy of Raccoon City even three decades after its destruction.

Back in 2017, Resident Evil 7 redefined the series with its first-person perspective and grounded psychological terror. That move resurrected the franchise after years of losing its way. Requiem builds on that foundation by allowing players to seamlessly switch between first-person and third-person views. It’s the best of both worlds, the raw terror of RE7 and the classic over the shoulder gameplay perfected in RE2 Remake.

Add in a looming stalker-like antagonist, a creeping sense of dread around every corner, and the kind of visual fidelity that makes darkness feel alive, and you’ve got a recipe for pure survival horror.

Capcom’s Gamescom announcement was more than just another reveal, it was a declaration that Resident Evil is entering its next era. With cutting-edge tech, smart storytelling that connects back to Outbreak, and a flexible gameplay system that gives fans exactly what they want, Resident Evil Requiem is already shaping up to be one of the biggest horror games of this generation.

The game launches February 27, 2026 on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.

So the question now is, when you dive into Requiem, will you play in first-person for maximum fear, or third-person for that classic Resident Evil feel?
